Michael Dunlop won the senior TT event this year. clap: He became the first rider to win four TTs in consecutive years when he secured his first success in the blue riband Senior event.

I still remember watchin the TT races being aired on Star Sports during 1999-2000 (not LIVE) and I used to wonder whether this is some lower division of motor cycle racing for people who cannot get into the moto gp. But, as I started to understand the sport, my respect for these participants grew more and more. They literally laugh at death staring at them.

I really feel for Aspi, who even on having the honour of being the only Indian to have completed the TT race, and even secure a bronze replica on his maiden effort, never got the laurels that he really deserved.

:thumbs up to Mike Dunlop for continuing his winning streak.

Sad that there was no broadcaster of his legendary sport on Indian television.

Would suggest have a look at the results prior to saying this as I am not very sure of his 3rd position. He competed alright, but...

EDIT : Got it. He came at position no. 36 and that is last. And during mid 90's (Overdrive, by his good friend)) days, it was widely publicized as 3rd position. Google to rescue. Link

Great thread to celebrate what is without doubt the greatest motorcycle race in the world!

Doing the TT is for a select breed of rider only. These guys are the ultimate expression of road biking - knowing the risks, mitigating what can be addressed, accepting what remains, and riding for nothing but the pure joy of being at perfect harmony with your bike and the road. No real money here, just loads of passion and danglers that clang.

One of the last great old school sporting events that remain. Long may it live.

Absolutely! The unofficial current top speed record is of 332 km/h at the end of Sulby straight on a Suzuki 1000 cc machine, set by Bruce Anstey again in 2006. :)

Frank Petricola killed in Isle of Man TT qualifying:

The Isle of Man TT is notorious for being one of the deadliest motorsport events on the planet and after three deaths in 2014, this year's edition has already seen its first fatality.

At the Sulby Crossroads, 32-year-old Frank Petricola crashed and tragically lost his life during qualifying on Wednesday. The French rider is now listed as the 141st competitor to die during in the century-long history of the TT. This would have been his debut in the prestigious motorcycle racing event.

According to ACU Events Ltd, "Petricola was a regular competitor in the IRRC Championship and enjoyed his best season in 2013 with 11th overall in the Superbike category. His best result, sixth, came at Chimay and he ended the year strongly with six successive top ten finishes and took a brace of thirds in the Lightweight Races at Horice and Terlicko."

"Franck showed incredible character to battle back from the serious injuries he suffered at the North West 200 last year when many a lesser man would have given up the challenge - but it showed his determination to compete on the mountain course," said Gary Thompson, Clerk of the course.

An investigation has been launched in regards to the details of the accident and his death.
