Re: 2014 Australian GP : Race Thread

My God what a qualifying session, Daniel Ricciardo has just told everyone that he is the man and that too with a Smile, what a drive by the Aussie to take P2 in qualifying

Hamilton as expected took Pole but no one expected Ricciardo to do so well, news of the day was Vettel failing to make it to Q1

Not a good day for Ferrari with Alonso struggling and also kimi crashed at the end of Q2 which might have caused Vettel to miss out on Q1

What a start to 2014 season, really looking forward to the race.

Re: 2014 Australian GP : Race Thread

Lame noise, lame looking cars.

But WOW is this going to be one entertaining season. I just love eeeverything about it so far. It could NOT have been better.

It's like having the Senna era turbo cars again, twitching and dancing !

My favorite part of this entire Quali, was when Vettel got eliminated in Q2 and the crowd went wild. Hopefully the finger stays away for some time !

Re: 2014 Australian GP : Race Thread

That was an awesome qualifying.A show of pure skill in the end by Daniel and hamilton and also by other drivers tackling the wet.
Mercedes have a good car in their hands, i hope they have a good result this season.
Hamilton has always been my race hero.Eagerly waiting for the race tomorrow.
Go Mercedes!!

Re: 2014 Australian GP : Race Thread

Rain always adds to the magic of qualifying. But, I am afraid we cant know much about the cars due to the mixed conditions.

Ricciardo and Magnussen thumping their respective seniors was good to watch. And where did Torro Rosso come from? That was a surprise. I expected Williams to be much closer to the top. Shame about Kimi. And Lotus looks truly awful.

Tomorrow is the day of fuel and tyre saving. The drivers got to work a lot for their money this year.

Re: 2014 Australian GP : Race Thread

Awesome qualifying session!

Mercedes on pole as expected, but didn't expect Ricciardo to be this close. Vettel dropping out of Q2 was really surprising, given how well Daniel was going.

Watching these drivers wrestle with the torque of the turbo engines in the wet was amazing.

I love the sound of the new engines too, it has more character compared to the V8s, which were almost like a constant wail. Not a patch on the V10s though. Looking forward to listening to all the turbos spooling up on the starting grid tomorrow, should be an awesome sound.

EDIT: Just looked at the trap speeds from Practice 3. The Mercedes factory team are going 2.5 km/h faster than everyone else at 320 km/h. Red Bull doing about 310-312 km/h!

Re: 2014 Australian GP : Race Thread

Did i watch the season Opener Formula 1 Qualifying today

A true hardcore F1 fanatic does not watch Formula 1 to watch it, he watches it to HEAR the awesome growl of the Speed Machines, Whatever happened, and this is not Formula 1. Just glad Schumacher retired and did not continue racing.

Mercedes has always been good at qualifying since the last 3 seasons, but when it comes to RaceDay, they are lost quickly on the Rear View Mirror. I wish the same tomorrow.

The new Bunch of boys are quite Quick and are going to be awesome .

Re: 2014 Australian GP : Race Thread

I like the current generation cars. They have got so much character.
And the new rules are in favour of the driver and skill. This time hopefully drivers won't win because they have a fast car, they will win because of their skill.
I always considered hamilton a better driver, now is the time to show that skill.
These cars are meant to be driven, not endlessly win with a fast car.

Re: 2014 Australian GP : Race Thread

So Ferrari are having consistently bad start to the season. Very disappointed that they are not able to elevate their performance and start with the bang. It straight away puts their drivers in a disadvantage. But expecting some fireworks from Alonso and Kimi during the race!

They should change the famous line from racing to:

"Gentlemen, start your hair dryers"

eggzakly ! Also, is everyone getting the commentary audio alright? I am on SS HD2 and it feels like those guys are talking in and out of a wind tunnel. And just now, SSHD2 just went off air at 11.56, is it just my place? Duh!

I am watching it on SS4. Audio is ok here.

Coming back to the race, what a eventful race it has been till now! Looks like the prediction of 'only half the cars on the grid making it to the finish line' might come true.

Yes with the large torque thanks to TC'ed 1.6litre V6 engines and drive by wire brakes it will need some skill and it is just not all about pedal to metal and steer the car around.

Exciting season ahead but does it sound like F1 - No not all

Bernie why why why

Start sport HD audio is horrible. Makes it sound even worse.

could be! still 22 laps to go and 5 cars already out for all sorts of reasons. And to worsen the situation perhaps, are we seeing light rain around?

Nice opening race, I would say. Good to see new faces in the podium. Hope to see better quality of coverage by ESPN in the upcoming races.
