A bit of drama here. Rossi and Lorenzo are critical of the changes made to turn 12 and especially to turn 10. These changes resulted in stop-go sections which doesn't play to Yamaha's strengths.

These decisions were taken during the Safety commission meeting held on Friday. Safety commission consists of riders, Dorna and Race Direction reps and meets at 5:30 PM on Fridays during race weeks.

The fact is that Rossi and Lorenzo have not been attending safety commission meetings for some time now. Rossi, from last year's Sepang race (for obvious reasons) and Lorenzo from a few years now (ever since his complaints on riders riding dangerously went unheard).

They didn't attend this week's meeting too which is shocking and shameful, especially because their inputs as senior riders are very much needed after a fatal accident. Once the meeting was held and decision taken, both the factory Yamaha riders were highly critical of the changes.Lorenzo goes as far as saying that he was not invited for the meeting. This is ridiculous because the meetings are held at the same time every race weekend and no invitation is necessary to attend. This led to backlash from Pol Espargaro, Bradley Smith, Cal Crutchlow etc who felt that Rossi and Lorenzo have no ground to complain considering that they didn't attend the meeting and that they are also comfortably ignoring the fact that a rider's death one day before brought forth these changes.

I fully support the comments of Tech3 riders. Just because you are current world champion (Lorenzo) or a motogp demigod (Rossi) you cannot always have your way, especially at the cost of majority consensus. Out of respect for the departed rider, they must now just shut up and race.

Re: The 2016 MotoGP Thread

@badri

There is also a report of Demigod complaining about the same corner and altering the run of area. If reports are believed it made no sense to attend this meeting considering the same was brought up for several years.

Now i am just talking about reports. No one knows what has happened in this demigod's career and boycotting was one way of saying that committee is just a eye wash. Anyway just presenting the alternate point of view

It does appear the run of was one of the main reason to even cause such an incident.

WHAT. A . RACE.

VR46 is BACK, and with a BANG. Who'd have thought after that DNF in Mugello!

This guy is a role model for life, how to jump back after setback after setback, one disappointment after another, one should learn from Valentino Rossi!

Complete reversal of fortunes after mugello, and right back in the championship yet again in SPAIN, no less!

EDIT : Good to see VR and MM shake hands post the race in parc ferme. Wonderful gesture all around.

SUPER SUNDAY - thanks for tuning in, everyone. Time for some yummy mutton biryani.

What a ride by 'Vale'!

The duel was amazing. At Catalunya that too.

I am so glad I turned up for this one.

Very true. What is doing right now is amazing. On the race day, he finds the extra tenth or two to make the difference. Beating Marquez in a straight fight is no mean achievement and he made it look so easy.

May be he is the GOAT of all sports...37 and to ride like that. Thats some serious steel you know what i mean.

Beautiful race, wonderful sportsmanship and the last thing we wanted has happened. Rossi shaking hands with marquez. It simply means rossi fans, you have a rider to follow after the Demigod retires.

Re: The 2016 MotoGP Thread

The high points of the fantastic Catalunya-n race:

* Was Maverick possessed by Takuma Sato? Boy, he had pinned that throttle fully open and forgotten completely about it.

* 'The Maniac' does a maniac again - this time, the championship defender, J Lo. The latter wasn't in any mood to heed to the apologies and shake hands.

* Shake hands they did - Vale and Marc. When Vale does this after a bitter rivalry, the hand shake is a career shaking one - ask Max and Sete. Marc is still too young though to be shaken off so easily. Do not expect this hand shake to last long if they cook it too hot into a corner in a fight for the lead in the races to come.

Can't wait for Assen (Already tired of waiting for some broadcaster to air the superb Isle of Man TT, sigh!!).

PS: Shaken off and quickly forgotten will again be Dani Pedrosa's ride to the podium. He was the only rider on the rostrum on medium rears, his feather light weight probably was a factor on him sticking to the otherwise de-facto hard rubbers.

Re: The 2016 MotoGP Thread

Phenomenal racing by VR46 and MM93! Brought back the memories of 2009 although today it didn't come down to the last corner.

Vinales' block pass on Lorenzo deserves a mention too. Kid has got a future!

Gutted for Lorenzo to be wiped out. He didn't deserve it.

Everyone was cursing Iannone for what he did, but on the hindsight it looked similar to Dani-Dovi incident.

Well, how about that?
It felt like I was watching Vale of the old, coming back from the back the way he did. I suppose you're as old as you feel, and he's just not willing to come out of of his teens.
This is a VERY VERY different style we're seeing from the man this year. Just amazing.

Ps:this race is going in to storage on the hdd.

What a brilliant race! It was a great pleasure watching Rossi overtake two riders in turn 1 from 8th in the first lap, pass every rider one after the other, maintain the lead till the final laps along with managing the tyres and finally braking oh so late and smoothly into turn 1 in the final lap to beat Marquez.
Now with only 22 points behind Marquez, Rossi is very much in contention for his tenth MotoGP championship.
Cheers to the Doctor.

What a fantastic race and The Doctor is becoming younger race by race! What a level of fitness and reflex this man is having at the age of 37!

First race of the season for me and I was surprised and a little amused to see Lorenzo has finally ditched HJC. Apparently, he's now using Shark.

Re: The 2016 MotoGP Thread

Fantastic Race. Rossi at the age of 37 with never say die attitude and the best part is riding the motorcycle fast with worn tyres makes me a cut a above. When things are not ideal, he goes a bit extra to get the result.

I drove back home 300 kms just to watch this race live.
