Re: Formula 1 - Silly Season, 2017

Interesting to see that Ferrari seems to have taken a few risks looking at the design of the car. Ultra slim and wide sidepods and that horizontal wing on top of the shark fin. Hope it yields the desired results!

Its not the side pod itself but the aero appendages ahead of the sidepods that's got the unusual shape, possibly designed to work along with the front crash structure. The full package will only become clear during the tests & first race practice.

More apparent from this angle.

Not to be left behind, McLaren also showed some aero trickery there.

My first reaction was the they launched a Marussia! This livery doesn't is let down compared to the hype McLaren created around it.

Re: Formula 1 - Silly Season, 2017

Livery wise I love the orange palette of the McLaren however the car does not look as radical as the others.

Ferrari seems to share the T wing like appendage with Mercedes in front of their rear wing. However the attachment differs in both cases with Mercedes not having a shark fin engine cover to attach it to in the reveal.

Mclaren has an interesting aero addition just behind their front wing attachment. The only other car that I could find something similar was on the Renault where the front wing attachment has been extended behind a bit.

Motorsport has this great article in which you can compare the Ferrari 2017 car and the 2016 car by moving a slider. Neat. Provides a great way to understand the differences between the 2016 and 2017 cars.

Drive on,
Shibu.

Re: Formula 1 - Silly Season, 2017

Cosmetically the 2017 cars will look very different to their 2016 predecessors, the core of the car, the power unit and the areas situated around the power unit, have not changed a great deal, Williams said in a statement.

There is so much corporate PR now a days in F1 that you cannot take anything that these guys say on face value.

Apparently the same PU is being used by Force India and they have had "an unprecedented" improvement in their Merc. PU.

There's only one true measurement and that will be on track in Melbourne.
Hopefully some clues will be available during the Barcelona tests.

Re: Formula 1 - Silly Season, 2017

McLaren Honda MCL32 took to the track for the first time at Barcelona today.

Formula 1 - Silly Season, 2017-c5lektvwyaaumd4.jpg

The car is running a high rake as expected.

Formula 1 - Silly Season, 2017-c5lqovgwqaa7wfl.jpg

Must say that the car looks brilliant on track.
Much better than when under artificial light in the launch ceremony.

The engine sounds clean and much different to the 2016 PU.
Sound of music to McLaren & Honda fans.

Re: Formula 1 - Silly Season, 2017

To be honest I hate the designs of most of the cars because of the sharkfin. It just looks so out of place and ruins the side on view. I hope they put in a ruling next year to ban them.

Here's the technical analysis of the McLaren from motorsport.

Formula 1 - Silly Season, 2017-c5ldzxvwuaim_dc.jpg
Fernando completed his filming duties before lunch & no problems known so far. Stoffel to jump into the car after lunch.
What an improvement compared to the disaster that was 2015 testing.

Here's a short clip of the car running on the straights.
Hoping for a better show this year for McLaren and Honda.

Re: Formula 1 - Silly Season, 2017

Last but not the least. Toro Rosso launched STR12, probably the best looking on the grid. The kid brother probably stole some of the thunder. The livery is stunning to say the least.
