Re: Formula 1 - The 2018 Season

Revisions to the F1 technical regulations for 2019:

An increase in race fuel allowance from 105 to 110 kg. This will allow drivers to use the engine at full power at all times.

Driver weight will now be considered separately to the car, meaning heavier drivers will no longer be disadvantaged.

Drivers will be required to wear biometric gloves to increase safety and facilitate medical rescue.

With only 3 engines allowed for the season (or is it less in 2019?), we can be sure that the drivers won't be using engine at full power at all times. Plus, I read elsewhere that the teams have figured out that starting slightly underfueled and fuel saving during the race is faster over a race distance than starting with more fuel and using more power.

McLaren: Tim Goss removed from chief technical officer position

Further proof of there being something seriously wrong at McLaren.

Netflix to screen new Formula 1 documentary on 2018 season.
It comes on the heels of the successful Grand Prix Driver series about McLaren's troubled 2017 season, which was recently shown on Amazon.

https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/13...ry-partnership

I've read somewhere earlier today that Netflix will be following Max Verstappen during this weekend in Monaco. And that it will be directed by the same guy who made the Senna documentary.
They've been filming since Melbourne (and probably the pre-season) already and Ted Kravitz pointed the Netflix crew out in one of his notebooks from there. I remember they have distinctively different camera rigs than the usual FOM broadcast crew.

Red Bull to conduct Renault/Honda engine comparison in Canada.

Quote:

"It will be a month or so. End of June, beginning of July. It's the time-frame we've always talked about," said Horner.

"We want to compare the two engines in Canada," added Horner, amid reports both Renault and Honda are planning upgraded units for the seventh round of the world championship.

"We'll get small updates in Montreal but we need to get the most out of them. It's very important to us."

Re: Formula 1 - The 2018 Season

A lot of anti Max comments of late. Clearly justified given his what has transpired and down to his in experience.

But comparing him to Ricciardo. I think they are very close in terms of pace, with Max being slightly ahead in dry conditions.

When comparing them in the wet. Max is at a different level with Ricciardo being below-average.

It's not really experience that Max is lacking. Although he is young, he is in his 4th season in F1. At similar F1 experience levels, drivers like Raikkonen and Alonso were showing much more promise delivering better results. Kimi was even fighting for championship in his 3rd season against Schumacher.

What Max lacks is a bit of maturity and his support group which includes Jos Verstappen and Helmut Marko aren't helping him by not correcting him when required.

Experience should teach him to not overdrive.

I feel his style of doesnt help as he's had his fair share of critics for aggressive overtaking. His reply has been ignoring them rather than understand where they are coming from, which in turn has led him to disregard all advice, eventually leading him to this point.

Good point about Alonso and Kimi. But they had very strong, no nonsense team bosses in Flavio Briatore and Ron Dennis. Horner is doing a good job, though he's a little wary of losing Max to Mercedes/Red Bull and no really being firm with him.

Dont think Helmut Marko saying that is enough.

Talking of the 4th season, in 1994 Michael Schumacher was displaying the shrewdness and maturity way beyond his age and being supported by his incredible team. Daddy Verstappen was also part of this team.

As for age and experience, in 2008 Lewis showed what it took to become a WDC at 22. Max and his dad refuses to learn from live examples from their active years and may probably end up as footnotes in F1 history. The sad thing is that Max is wrecking others races in the process!

3M is a BIG company and won't bother to waste time if they didn't have a case and are not exactly the kind of people looking to make "quick cash".
Hopefully we get the old logo back.

I wonder how this plays out for Fernando Alonso.Gil De Ferran had a short stint with BAR-honda. Andrea Stella of course was with Fernando Alonso during his Ferrari stint.

Gil mentored Alonso at Indy as well, im sure they get along, not sure how he will contribute to team/driver performance as his job title suggests though.

Deep down Alonso still craves F1 success and McLaren is his best chance to get to the podium. Merc/Ferrari/Red Bull doors are shut.

Maybe he will give it another year at McLaren to see if things improve. Indy etc will always be there for the next 10 years, age is not really a factor.

Re: Formula 1 - The 2018 Season

Posting a video about the logistics of Formula 1. With this year's triple back to back races, I'm sure the support crews had their work cut out for them! Didn't know teams we not allowed to unpack before all of them got their stuff at the next track. This ensures no unfair advantage to the richer teams.
