Formula 1 - The 2018 Season

Let's start with the Technical and Sporting regulations for 2018.

Interesting to note the new regulations regarding LO systems.

Also in other news,
Sauber will be supplied by Honda PU in 2018.
McLaren to supply them with transmission & Hydraulics.

Jenson Button could return to Formula One full time next season
Quote:
And with Alonso's future at McLaren hanging in the balance, Button has claimed he could be called upon by the British team to return next season.
'I can't rule it out,' Button said. 'I have a contract with the team to race next year so I would definitely not rule anything out.'
Button also revealed that he was contacted earlier this year by two teams wanting him to race for them this season.

New owners showing more signs of common sense than Bernie ever did. I guess they are thinking that if an F1 driver can bring in more audiences for Indy then it might work the other way around too.

Brave, brave move.

It will be interesting to see what happens with all these contracts expiring at the end of this year. Alonso, Vettel, Bottas; maybe Verstappen might fancy a switch if one of these seats go vacant (of course not to Mclaren).

Finally Mclaren have received the nod from the executive committee to ditch Honda if they feel it is the best route going forward.

This opens up a possible Mercedes collaboration for 2018.

About time, they are putting everything behind their F1 project only to see it go up in flames because of Honda.

Re: Formula 1 - The 2018 Season

Malaysiam Gran Prix will no longer be on the calendar after nearly two decades. But back on the calendar are the French GP at the Paul Ricard circuit after a long absence, and German GP at the Hockenheim.

According to the information from AUTO BILD MOTORSPORT the decision to switch PU suppliers have been taken already by McLaren. A separation from Honda is imminent and also the Daimler board of directors has already agreed for cooperation.

I think all this is possible depending on the results of next Honda PU upgrade.

Re: Formula 1 - The 2018 Season

Wolff wouldn't be surprised if Rosberg returns with Ferrari

Quote:
Mercedes boss Toto Wolff says he would not be surprised if world champion Nico Rosberg eventually makes a Formula 1 comeback with Ferrari.
Quote:
While Rosberg has insisted he is happy being away from F1 and he has no interest in returning to competition, Wolff is not so convinced that the German will be content staying away from racing for so long.

And, in a relaxed conversation with media in the paddock in Montreal, he even let slip that he had a suspicion Rosberg could return around 2018 – at the very time a team like Ferrari could be looking for another driver.
[quote]“I think when he took the decision to retire it was because it was just too much,” said Wolff. “It was a very stressful year against probably the best driver in F1, and he felt at that stage, exhausted. That is how he appeared to me.

“But he is 31 years old. If he is unlucky, he has another 70 years to go in his life! I will give you one
Quote:
– I wouldn’t be surprised if he changes his mind in a year and reappears in a Ferrari! Or, somewhere else.”
Well that would certainly make things interesting. However, instead of speculating a return it sounds more like Toto is firing thinkly veiled shots at Rosberg by saying he "couldn't handle the pressure against the best ever; Lewis Hamilton".

I wonder if Mclaren can sign a provisional 2yr contract with Mercedes and then go back to Honda if they get back on track.

Current situation is ridiculous. They have made a successful F1 team into lab rats.

Re: Formula 1 - The 2018 Season

If Raikkonen's season is anything to go by, I have serious doubts on Rosberg in a Ferrari. Am guessing it'd be GRO or GUT filling RAI's seat in 2018.

And that three races in three consecutive weekends is what doctor ordered.

You mean the ones that are coinciding with the Football World Cup? IMHO, they should have taken a break during that time-frame. F1 cannot compete with a soccer world cup in viewership.

In fact, it is 5 races in 6 weeks, starting from last week of June.

Fernando looks to have come to terms with his future

http://www.skysports.com/f1/news/124...vity-explained

I remember his behavior changing to become more relaxed when he made the decision to leave Ferrari.

Has to be between Renault or an interim McLaren Mercedes drive eh?
