It has been tough too, with the death of his father after a long illness coming days before his race win in Baku in June.

He is a thoughtful driver, highly skilled but also clearly very intelligent and he will be a great addition to the roster of young talent in F1 along with Verstappen and Ocon in particular.
Can't wait to see him with the big boys next season on that Sauber.

Fernando Alonso will continue with McLaren.

Sounds like the extension is for one year.

Fernando at Ferrari after Kimi's contract expires next year?

Kimi and Fernando were both out of contract after the 2017 season. If Alonso to Ferrari did not happen this year, I don't think it will happen after 2018 season either, especially now with Vettel tied up until 2020. Sergio even stated publicly that they are not interested in Fernando. Ferrari will hope to put Leclerc in the Sauber seat for 2018 season and have him ready to take Kimi's seat for 2019 season. Or tempt one of Ricciardo or Max, which could be easy if Renault/Honda lag behind in 2018 as well. I don't think Alonso will be high up on the Ferrari's list of drivers for 2019 season.

Well, Verstapen is tied till 2020. So on less option for Ferrari. Riccardo will have a time of his life next year, having so many options.

Better to retire now on a high than end up awkwardly retiring in December when all the seats are full.
Thanks Felipe, the grid will be so empty without you next year. He's been racing for as long as I've been watching the sport.
Always a bit sad to see someone retire after so many years in the sport, but I think many can agree that the time was right.

Fun Fact:
First season without a Brazilian since 1969.
There were no Brazilian drivers in 1954, 1957, 1958, 1960-69. 1969 was the last year without a Brazilian driver on the grid,it's been 47 years.

A world champion for a few seconds, a great guy and a real fighter who came back from such a serious injury. Well definitely hope to see him in other forms of racing.

Re: Formula 1 - The 2018 Season

The 2018 season will limit PUs to 3 per team. Im sure if they make this 4 even today, no one will complain. Absurd rule in light of a disastrous 2017 penalty heavy season.

Sauber set for Alfa Romeo, driver announcements

Sauber will reportedly make a double announcement in Abu Dhabi, not only confirming their 2018 driver line-up but also revealing they will race with rebranded Alfa Romeo engines.

The sad thing is Sergio Marchionne has already told if the alfa name makes a comeback to the sport it will be a junior team or a development team for Ferrari(like what Toro Rosso is to Redbull).
It is a shame looking at what the team has achieved in motorsports, but then considering their poor sales in the market around the world they can't compete in F1.
Cheers to Ferrari for bringing the brand back.

Formula 1 set to reveal new logo in Abu Dhabi. It seems Liberty media has registered a host of new logos at the European Union Intellectual Property, and one of which will be used from the start of 2018.

Re: Formula 1 - The 2018 Season

The last race with the open cockpit race cars. The next year, in comes the Halo cars with cockpit protection.

It would be interesting to see what aerodynamic trinkets would adorn this structure next year.

Re: Formula 1 - The 2018 Season

On with the Halo and off with the shark fins for next year. Good call by McLaren.

Hope they scrap the 3 PU rule, im sure most teams will be strategically taking a penalty and introducing a 4th PU into the pool anyway.
