Former MotoGP champion and current Honda World Superbike factory rider Nicky Hayden is in a serious condition, having sustained injuries in a road accident while cycling in Italy.

Hayden, 35, was riding with friends on a road close to Rimini on Wednesday when a road car collided with his bicycle, the American ending up on the hood of the car and impacting against its windshield.

Hang in there, mate.

Oh!! This is sad news!!
Honda just brought the new Fireblade in the WSBK series this year and were looking to Hayden for good results and good development efforts on the bike.

I hope he recovers back to his full soon.

Sad news. This website has some pictures of the car; looking at the damage suffered by the Peugeot, I can only imagine the strength of impact.

Hope Nicky is out of the ICU soon.

Some reports suggest the car suffered a tyre burst and then veered into Nicky.

Coming to Nicky, it said he was in a medically-induced coma to aid with the "diffuse brain edema" he has suffered due to head trauma. (Source: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/129571 & http://www.motofire.com/2017/05/news...ith-car-video/)

This sounds eerily similar to what happened to Schumi back in December 2013. :(

The reports aren't good - Nicky has suffered severe brain damage.

Hope he pulls through!

Nicky's dad Earl Hayden clears up some rumors. Unfortunately some "media"(more like bloggers) scumbags decided to run fake news of his death that went viral.

Interesting to note that he says there was no surgery or medically induced coma. Nicky is on Life support. Still in critical condition and it doesn't look good.

RIP Nicky Hayden

Its a tough pill to swallow isn't it? A motorcycle racer who put his life on the line for 2 decades on every racetrack and made a career out of it loses his life on the streets while riding a bicycle?

May Nicky Hayden rest in peace. :(

RIP, Nicky Hayden. We all will miss you.

Vivid memories of the last race of the 2006 season where Valentino with his one hand on the championship had to score atleast 5th, if I am right, but wasn't to be. He crashed and finished 13th handing over the crown to Nicky.

Had a typical motogp career that fizzed gradually before going to the WSBKs.

A great soul on and off the track though. R.I.P!

God knows Nicky, that I hated the day when you won the Championship from Rossi.

And yet, today morning I had tears in my eyes upon learning of your demise.

Here's hoping you keep on riding, cause a biker isn't born to rest. Hope to ride with you in the next world.

RIP Nicky Hayden, I didn't see him racing too much. But I did watch the race where he won the World Championship.

While I am sad that he died and it is a tough period for the family, maybe there is solace in the fact that he didn't suffer like Michael Schumacher is suffering right now. Even if he did pull through, the chances of him living a normal life given the extent of his injuries were very slim. Not to mention the hope that his friends and family will hold on to thinking that one day he may become the same Nicky again.

Ride on #69. A champ on and off the track.

May his soul rest in peace.

I dont follow MotoGP now-a-days but used to follow it during my college years and Nicky was one of my favorite rider. Its sad that he had to leave the world so early.

Never easy to say good bye. Unfortunate event and very sad.

Feel sorry for his family. WSBK will not be the same without its legends. RIP Nicky, hope you enjoy the ride in heaven.

Sad to hear about the news, RIP Kentucky Kid/Champion I must say. A life gone too soon I think, irony is he was safe all the while riding the meanest 2 wheel machines on the planet and got killed while cycling. Wish the family strength and courage to bear this loss.

Watched him race in MotoGP and he was a fantastic rider to say the least, well deserved Champion.
