Amazon Prime will be releasing a four-part documentary on the behind the scenes working of the McLaren F1 team. Grand Prix Driver will premier online on February 9, 2017 on Amazon Prime Video. All four parts will be released in one go.

The series documents the 2017 season of McLaren-Honda. It begins with the team's preparation for the season and the presence of a new Executive Director Zak Brown leading the team. For the 2017 season, the team's drivers included rookie Stoffel Vandoorne and former double world champion Fernando Alonso.

Michael Douglas provides the narration, while Manish Pandey, Chris Connell and Anwar Nuseibeh have produced it. Manish Pandey is known for his motorsport films like Senna, Ferrari (unreleased) and The Bentley Boys.

Founded in 1963, the McLaren team is the oldest participant in the Formula 1 after Ferrari. The team won its first Grand Prix at the 1968 Belgian Grand Prix. The team has won eight World Constructors' Championships so far (1974, 1984, 1985, 1988-1991 and 1998) and twelve World Drivers' Championships. Lewis Hamilton won the team its last Driver's title in 2008. However, the team has not won a race since the 2012 season.

I don't know when the whole project was commissioned, but the makers wrapped up pretty soon. It would have been amazing documentary had McLaren been competitive, may be a couple of podiums.
Some really good insight, about the whole season preparation. I've a feeling, it was supposed to be much longer, but they wrapped it up soon resulting in four 25 min episodes. What a shame !

Watched the series its really good, shows the other side of F1, hope the Renault engines help Mclaren regain lost glory.

It would have really good if they had shown Alonso the same way they did Stoffel in the first two episodes.
It looked like Alonso being a veteran didn't need to go through the same treatment Stoffel had to, being a new comer.

I hope the series continues.

Saw the documentary. Brilliant direction & commentary (by Michael Douglas). However, it's less about the car / track and more about the office & tech center. Loved the facilities :thumbs up.

McLaren must be gutted with Honda's shameful performance - within 2 days of testing, they were already on the 4th engine due to problems. Damn. I don't think Honda has any lack of talent or resources; it might just be a matter of not spending enough $$$ on the F1 engine program.

Brilliant show! I wonder if they will continue with a new season after Mclaren and Renault tied up.

Netflix will also be doing a show on the 2018 F1 season.

I would urge some of you to watch the "Williams" show on netflix. Isn't much about the cars but more about Frank Williams struggle and the nasty accident that crippled him.
