Tyre Selection

Additional Information

Formula 1 reaches Montreal this weekend. It is a highly power dependent circuit so tables should turn in Merc's and Ferrari's favor. This is the second race that will use the hypersoft tyre. Tyre selection among the top 3 team is interesting. Redbull and Ferrari have selected 8 sets of hypers where as Merc have picked up only five of them. So we will see some interesting strategies forming up.

Coming to the top 3 teams

Mercedes - The track is right down Merc's alley. High Power circuit. So they will be hoping for string result like last year.

Ferrari - Ferrari has proven this year that their engine is right up there with Mercedes. So they will be in the hunt for a good result.

Redbull - This circuit is not a circuit where Redbull will excel as much as they did in Monaco. And they are starting the weekend on the back foot with confirmed penalties for Riccardo. Christian will be hoping the Verstappen has the first clean race of the season.

Lets see what Canadian GP has in store for us. Let the races begin.

Race and all other sessions will be telecast on Star Sport Select 2 HD/Star Sport Select 2

The FIA has added a third DRS zone at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal in a bid to further boost overtaking in Formula 1's Canadian Grand Prix.

FIA eager to do all it can to improve the spectacle this year, an extra DRS zone will run on the straight between the Turn 6/7 and Turn 8/9 chicanes on the far side of the Montreal circuit.

This new area is in addition to the traditional DRS zones down the long straight into the final chicane, and the subsequent start/finish straight.

For Williams to be so slow in both Monaco and Canada, such polar opposite circuits, is a testament to how badly their car has been engineered this season.

Verstappen fastest in FP3 just pipping Vettel. It's going to be an interesting qualifying. Mercedes looks to be better on the harder compounds though which might be avantageous in the race.

Drive on,

Excellent lap by Vettel, he is one of those guys who nails it during Quali.
On the other hand Kimi bins it again in Q3 running on grass which led him to abondon the final quali lap.
Max put in an excellent lap answering his critics in the best easy possible.
Hamilton struggling in one of his favourite circuits, must be frustrating for Mercedes.

Going to be an interesting start tommorow with Verstappen starting on the second row beside Hamilton.

May have been a potential 1-2 for Ferrari had not Raikkonen messed up his lap after having a great FP3. First pole for Ferrari in Canada since 2001 as per the commentator.

Best of the rest seems the Renaults and the Force India. Going to be a potential scrap there.

Drive on,

Yes. Spot on. Micheal Schumacher was on pole for Ferrari.

Brother Ralph won the race in a BMW powered Williams. One awesome race. Still cannot forget it.

It is for Sabastian to bring it back for Ferrari today.

Another boring race this year. Even with three DRS zones, hardly any overtaking in the race.
Yawn

And Sebastian did, comfortably. And with the first Ferrari win in Montreal since 2004 also gives him the WDC lead by a single point.

Raikkonen's average run with Ferrari continues. Ends at 6th place behind his teammate, both Red Bulls and both Mercedes cars.

The Chequered flag was waved at 68 laps and not 69 laps.

It wasn't a typical Canadian GP with significant number of overtakes, even lesser overtakes than Monaco GP.
Seb takes the lead in championship by one point from Lewis. But all the teams have used their second engine, while mercs are on their first. They will get an upgraded engine for next race.

Re: Formula 1: The 2018 Canadian Grand Prix

What was Kimi Raikkonen doing? I can't seem to understand why he didn't put any sort of pressure on Lewis (let alone pass him) even though he was on fresher rubber

Saving the engine I guess. He's already on his second PU after the first one blew up.

Re: Formula 1: The 2018 Canadian Grand Prix

After an exciting Quali, was expecting more action in the race.
The FIA should just increase the length of the DRS zone, starting it earlier on the long back straight.
