Posting timings for India Standard Time (IST)

Formula 1: The 2018 Hungarian Grand Prix-timinig.jpg

Results for P1 are out. Redbull set the top pace on soft tyres. Vettel trailing them on Ultrasofts. Mercedes looking off pace in the session not able to break into 1:17s. This is going to be interesting. P2 will be more representative of Quali and Race pace as it happens at the same time of the day as the other two.

Re: Formula 1: The 2018 Hungarian Grand Prix

Vettel was able to do some really quick times even on on his 20+ laps old ultra softs. The story for the weekend is just about starting to flower.

Re: Formula 1: The 2018 Hungarian Grand Prix

With the power advantage negated due to rain, Ferrari could not manage pole. Interesting!

Ferrari gifted the front row to Mercedes which they should have locked out even in the rain. Vettel was just not quick enough, even with fresh set in the end he could not beat Kimi's time set earlier. Kimi on the other hand was the better Ferrari driver in the Quali. If not for his track position in the end which put him behind a very slow Grosjean, he had the pace to go quicker.

Re: Formula 1: The 2018 Hungarian Grand Prix

Merc will hope to keep track position and hold out for rain later on. Ferrari has superior pace and tire wear in warm/dry conditions, esp. Vettel who did an impressive race stint simulation in Practice 2 on Ultrasofts.

Ferrari, given the free tire choice, could try putting one car on Softs for a long first stint and hoping for rain.

This race is far from over, even on a notoriously difficult to overtake circuit.

I think Seb was being a little too cautious in Q3 considering what happened in Germany. But its fine, this season he can afford to do this since the cars are more evenly matched than the last year. So he can pull back some points in the second half of the season. But should not leave it until its too late.

Re: Formula 1: The 2018 Hungarian Grand Prix

Results of Qualifying. The wet sessions have had their part to play in quite a different mix of drivers and teams at the starting grid. It was surprising that Ricciardo was struggling as much as he did. Sainz has done well to position himself in the 3rd row ahead of Toro Rosso and Haas. An exciting race is on the cards. The weather may have its part to play to make it topsy turvy as well.

Anyone else having trouble with hotstar streaming? I'm having internet connectivity issues only with live streaming. I'm able to seamlessly play any content which is not live, eg yesterday's qualifying session. Internet connection is fine. Any suggestions?

Re: Formula 1: The 2018 Hungarian Grand Prix

No real action up front.

Lewis did a good first stint on the Ultrasofts. If Vettel can get the gap down to ~5 seconds net, his second stint on Ultrasofts may give a small chance of a tasty tussle at the end.

Oh man. So much action in the last few laps.

Flawless from Hamilton. Likely that Vettel will be under investigation? Gotta feel for Bottas; two contacts that put him down from 2nd to 5th place.

Re: Formula 1: The 2018 Hungarian Grand Prix

Mercedes made full use of the wet qualifying - dry race conditions. But their tire strategy with Bottas I think was too much of a gamble.

I would say good tire strategy by Ferrari after the setback at qualifying.
Although if they wouldn't have botched up Vettel's pit stop, he could have been ahead of Bottas right from there, avoided the fender bender and possibly could have thrown a challenge to Hamilton. Still, they salvaged some pride with a 2-3 finish.

Good race by some midfield players after getting a chance to start the race upfront in a difficult to pass track like Hungaroring.

And lastly kudos to Ricciardo for making up so many places to finish behind the top three.

Re: Formula 1: The 2018 Hungarian Grand Prix

Merc need to step up over the summer break. Ferrari have a slight PU advantage, and Kimi's coming alive which could give Ferrari strategy options.

Spa and Monza should be great.
