Mercedes gifts its employees a coin for every race win

Today, while on Reddit, I came across a thread on the Formula 1 subreddit that I definitely felt was worth sharing here.

Source: One of my preschool kids has a parent who used to work for Mercedes. He gave me this today (more of the story in comments)

The story is, for every race that Mercedes win, they gift their employees a coin to reward their efforts in helping the team. The coin contains details of which race and the positions of their drivers

Here's one of those coins:

This particular coin was given to people who were involved with moving Mercedes' equipment at every track.

A very nice gesture from Mercedes if you ask me. I always thought the laurels stopped with the core F1 team at the paddock and the drivers. But this shows that it does trickle down to the people doing a lot of the grunt work too.

Looks like the heart of people at Mercedes is as good as the heart of their cars!

Wow; pretty interesting. Nice way of preserving a driver's legacy.

Quick question: do drivers keep the trophy presented to them or is it a rolling trophy as in most sports.

The trophies are not rolling, they're for keeps.

Drivers often don't get to keep the trophies, very often they are contractually obligated to hand it over to the team, so it can be added to the team's showcase.

IIRC, teams provide a replica for the driver's personal collection.

That's really nice of Mercedes. It's a brilliant souvenir to get. It shows that the company acknowledges and appreciates the performance of each and every employee. This sort of gesture motivates the employees to give their best every day they go to work even if they are not seen on TV like the team drivers and bosses.

I think every team out there should come up with something like this.
