Re: Formula 1 : The 2018 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton is set to run number 1, instead of his iconic 44, in the Abu Dhabi GP - only the second time he will donning the number after 2009. Last time, the number 1 used was back in 2014 by Vettel as reigning champion of 2013.

Re: Formula 1 : The 2018 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

Hulkenberg lucky with that massive crash in the first lap

DNF for Kimi in his last race for Ferrari, however will be able to keep his 3rd position in the driver's standings, thanks to Bottas' incompetence.

Edit: Kimi, Ericsson, Ocon and Gasly makes 4 DNFs in their last race for their current teams.

.
I thought it was more of a case of tyre wear!

Great send off for Alonso though

Re: Formula 1 : The 2018 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

An eventful race with lot of overtakes across the grid.

That small fight between Ocon and Verstappen was good but Verstappen was really aggressive and could have ended up in a crash. Thanks to Ocon who gave more space probably because Force India's target was to fight Sauber to not lose the P7 in constructors championship.

Another good race for Leclerc and it will be more interesting when he takes up the Ferrari seat next year.

A disappointing race and year for Bottas with no wins this year. Of course he had to sacrifice his position in few races to Hamilton but still a below par performance from him, I feel. (Overall, he has just 3 wins in 41 races during the last two years with Mercedes)

Hamilton signed-off in style. And, a nice send off for Alonso.

Was awesome to see this happen. These three have accounted for 11 of the last 14 World Championships. The rest have gone to Kimi, Button and Nico.

Hope to see Fernando in a more competitive F1 car in future.

Sad to see Kimi's run at Ferrari end in a DNF. He sat in his car for a long time. I wonder why - sentimental (Kimi is not the type, though) or just desperation to get the car working again?

Was a tight Championship until Hamilton really started to turn the screws on Vettel and Ferrari. Lewis has been absolutely sensational this year. The best I have seen him drive in his years for Mercedes.

With 73 wins, he needs "only" 19 more to beat the once-considered-insurmountable records of 91 wins held by Michael. He got 12 in this season alone. So unless Vettel and LeClerc can do something about it before the next regulation change in 2021, he does stand a very real chance of breaking the record.

Look forward to the new season with renewed hope as a Ferrari fan!

Until Liberty Media puts this up on YouTube, here is the triple Donut for you to enjoy.

Re: Formula 1 : The 2018 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

The Post Race Press conference was epic hilarious

Quote:
Q: (Rebecca Clancy - The Times) Question to all three drivers. Just 112 days until we're in Australia. What are your plans now? What are you going to be doing over the winter break?

SV: What are your plans? You seem to be counting the days. Can't wait?

Seb, why don't you start? What are your plans?

LH: Another baby?

SV: I don't know. Quickly done! If you need advice, I know how to do it.

MV: Keep pushing!

SV: I don't know how long you two want to be in free practice...

MV: I like free practice.

SV: If you want to go to qualifying and take things to the next level, you've got my number! It's the usual drill. We've got some events coming but, things that I look forward to, after this year, to be very honest, is to turn everything off. I think I need some time for myself. I think it has been a quite difficult and exhausting year for me. I definitely need a bit of a gap. I'm pretty sure, based on the last winters, that very soon, usually after 111 days, I'm very, very hungry again for the next race. As I said, getting away for a little bit and then focus. Obviously we still have the test coming up, so not yet time to rest - but yeah, I think this will be an important one with the tyres for the next year and then, I don't know. Just enjoy home. Enjoy my family, enjoy friends. Do stuff that you don't usually have much time for. Some DIY. Do some fixing at home. Small jobs.

LH: DIY?

SV: Do It Yourself.

LH: You do that stuff?

SV: Yeah. A little bit.

LH: Good job.

Would have been nicer if Kimi didn't have that DNF and he could have also joined them for the donut party.

This year's championship was a close fought battle, especially the first half with Ferrari/Vettel leading at one point. But when it mattered, Mercedes-Hamilton combo delivered yet again, capitalizing on mistakes from their main rival. Hamilton has now the highest tally for number of wins with a single engine supplier, beating Schumacher's record with Ferrari.

Sad to see Kimi's last race with Ferrari ending with a DNF. This year was his best with Ferrari since his comeback to the team, and he signs off yet again as their last champion, last driver to win a race and last driver to be on pole.

Re: Formula 1 : The 2018 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

I thought it was going to be a parade! How wrong was I? Hulkenberg in the first lap with that dramatic flip (thank God he walked away from it). Then it was fights all over the track. Then many disappointing DNFs. 2018 season did go out in a bang!
Good Job HAAS for the 5th Constructors position. Too bad Force India dropped to 7th. What will happen next year?
A hundred day's rest and it all begins again in Australia with driver changes, team changes, what will the new year bring?

Re: Formula 1 : The 2018 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

Pretty eventful race, was pretty concerned for Hulkenberg when the car refused to flip back. Commentators were talking about the introduction of the halo which now causes an issue for the car to rollback the right side up. Hulkenberg's comments "I'm hanging like a cow, there's fire, there's fire"....seemed a bit stressed.

Really going to miss Fernando Alonso, and the farewell he got from LH and SV were phenomenal. I really hope some top team gets him back to F1 in 2020. He has so much to offer.

I wonder if the 3 penalty points he earned last evening doesn't get carried over to his WEC aspirations next year? Since they are both FIA events?

Cant wait for next season to start!!!

P.S: Nice tattoos on Hamilton. I wonder if that went well with the locals?!
