IMO the competition this time around will be between Kimi and Massa. So ferrari can rest assured to win the title!!
As far as Renault's new avatar is concerned, it gives me a feeling that bottles of water paint got spilled over the entire car and they decided to go ahead with that. Even their racing suits look awful.

I think Ferrari is in for a shock once they start their operations well and truly with Kimi. Ferrari was in the dumps and it took Schumacher + Todt + Brawn combi to bring it up where it is, and two from that combi are not there.
Kimi has never been a develper or a motivator and believe me the italian outfit is so used to MS's parenting that they will miss him sorely. Its the same reason why MS is at the tests and at the launch. Kimi @ Ferrari will be a make or brake move for both the driver and the car.
Lets wait till the testing times come out and we will get some idea. But from the looks of it, Ferrari and McLaren are on the pace.

The first set of times are out from Valencia. Fernando was 1 sec quicker than Kimi and Kimi had a blown engine.

Blown engine? I didnt read about that one on any sites, infact it was Alonso who had some issues at the end of the day, minor ones at that.
Where did you get that info from?

The info was from bbc.com. They did'nt specifically mention a blown engine but smoke pluming from the engine...which would suggest a blown engine.

Alonso was fastest on the second day as well. McLaren is not a team which would post quick times for sponsorship deals and when they appear to be quick it means they are quick.
Looking good for them as yet.
Renault seem to be on the pace as well, while Ferrari are gradually inching their way upwards.
Somehow the Redbulls performance with the Renault engine and Newey designed chassis has not been impressive till now, but it early days.

They were fast last season too, but the problem is race reliability. If they can get that then Ferrari & Renault have a major problem on their hands.

I don't really attach a lot of significance for these timings. Going fast in one lap could be down to many reasons. It would make sense if they show how each one fared on many laps with different fuel loads and stuff like that.
I'd love to see the McLaren in winning form again... but let us wait for the season to begin!

I dont think McLaren were fast last year in testing, they were about alright, but not Fast. Infact last year Honda, Renault and Ferrari were the best during preseason practice.
Kimi, though I like him, is not exactly a car developer the way DC or Mika were and after Panis moved to Toyota they had Wurz and the kids, along with Pedro to do the job.
Pedro when he had joined McLaren had not driven a top of the line car so anything for him was good. His inputs have only started to come in last year, but I think McLaren, though their claims were contrary, abandoned the development of their 06 challenger.
Alonso on the other had tested for Renault, drove a Minadri and is a proven talent. I think this years Macaa will be amazing.
