Re: Formula 1's 1000th Race - The 2019 Chinese Grand Prix

Here are the P1 results. Early days, but as many would be keen to know, Leclerc does not seem to have issues with the engine that he used at Bahrain.

Looks like Lewis is determined to beat the Ferrari's or at least split them. Bottas is not even close to his team mate. Celebrated too early after the Australian GP?

What's interesting is that the top 5 are within 1 second. FP2 should give more insights since it will be close to racing conditions.

I'm personally rooting for Leclerc this weekend. Have gotten bored of backing Vettel last couple of years, especially since the Azerbaijan GP where he rammed into Hamilton.

Here are the results of P2 led by Bottas. Leclerc could manage only a 7th. Max has made it to 3rd. Hamilton ran into some debris and couldn't complete his qualifying paced lap. Good to see both the McLarens within 1 second of the leader.

Here are the results of P3. Bottas fastest ahead of the Ferraris and 8 tenths faster than Hamilton. The session was red flagged after a big crash to Albon. He walked away safe.

Another Racing weekend that's counted as very special (1000th race) and expecting a competitive race like that of Bahrain GP! Expecting the young and confident Leclerc to stand in the podium on Sunday.

Let us wait for the qualifying. We all know that Ferrari do not 'turn it on' is P1 and P2. It seems that the Mercs were on Soft Tyres (Yellow) and not ultra-soft (Red). So allow about 0.5 to 0.7 secs for this. I am waiting for the qualifying to start.

Re: Formula 1's 1000th Race - The 2019 Chinese Grand Prix

Albon's crash red flagged the FP3 session, seems like he carried too much speed in to the corner.

Hamilton was scratcy in all the 3 practice sessions, however he is known to surprise in Qualifying.

Sorry, I got the colour interpretations wrong, Red is soft and Yellow medium.

Otherwise my informantion is not wrong. In Q2 all the top guns were using Yellow tyres. I expect the race to be run on Yellow and Black wall tyres or it may be 2x Yellow and one Red session. Let us see what happens.

Re: Formula 1's 1000th Race - The 2019 Chinese Grand Prix

Third different driver on pole for the season in first three races.
Bottas had a good enough first run for pole, he bettered it slightly on the second attempt. Hamilton will be alongside him.
For the first time this season we will have five teammates starting alongside each other.
1. Bottas
2. Hamilton
3. Vettel
4. Leclerc
5. Verstappen
6. Gasly
7. Ricciardo
8. Hulkenberg
9. Magnussen
10. Grosjean

Here are the results of Qualifying. Mercedes have found that extra bit in Qualifying.

More or less they lined up according to their car performance. Gasly finally managed to bring that Redbul to top 6, but the Renaults are right behind him and will fancy their chances of finishing ahead of him.

This is only the 2nd time in the 1000 races of F1 that this has happened. The first time was at Singapore in 2011.

Re: Formula 1's 1000th Race - The 2019 Chinese Grand Prix

It can make for some big overtaking of the opposing marquees. Shanghai is a 'wide open' track which encourages overtaking (but at your own risk). This is unlike Monte Carlo where overtaking is almost impossible.

Re: Formula 1's 1000th Race - The 2019 Chinese Grand Prix

Ironically, the reigning world champion unable to match his team mate's first Q3 run, while Bottas was able to improve upon his time further widening the gap to Lewis.

And all those talks of Ferrari gaining humongous power over Mercedes, vanished into thin air.
