It's a sad day indeed, for the automotive world.
For those who aren't familiar with the name plus who haven't watched it already, I'd recommend the movie Rush. Amazing, amazing movie and gives us an insight into the life of one of the best F1 racers in the world, winning the championship for both Ferrari and McLaren, the sport's two most successful teams. Not to forget his amazing recovery after the August 1976 Nürburgring crash.

Rest in Peace, King Rat.

To go through that burning hell at Nürburgring and come back the same season to race again after all the surgeries and treatment, superhuman.

This season seems to be a bad one for F1 with respect to losing legends - first Charlie Whiting and now Niki Lauda. The sport will greatly miss them.

My condolences to his family. A great loss to F1 & Mercedes. He was one of the greatest personalities in Formula 1...not just as a driver, but even in his advisory & mentoring role at Mercedes. The man had some fighting spirit :thumbs up.

May he & James Hunt have a few more race battles in heaven :).

Oh my god, I just watched Rush yesterday for the 100'th time and I was admiring both James Hunt and Niki Lauda like no other, I mean, everytime I am down in life, this is the movie I watch.

What a great loss to F1 and Mercedes!

One of the greatest names in F1 history, a true fighter, almost died but came back to take two more titles! Investigation into the crash of Lauda Air Flight 004 gives another insight into his fighting spirit. A true legend. RIP.

The song and this clip is all I can think of:

"God gave me an ok mind, but a really good ass that can feel everything in a car." -Niki Lauda

RIP.

I was amazed at his super human levels of persistence; be it in motorsports or aircraft safety.

Deeply saddened by the news. They don't make them tough and hard like him anymore. May his soul R.I.P.

I had read about his championships during early college days when internet was new and I was crazy about Formula1. Gave some life lessons :)

Rest in peace. Such stories of perseverance are so rare these days !

I showed the movie 'Rush' to my reluctant wife (then Girl-friend) who was completely disinterested in cars and F1 but that movie changed her completely, heck, she messaged me that he is no more today !

RIP. Sad day indeed. You all might have seen him in Mercedes pit garage and one might think that he is just another former world champion but you need to see the movie "Rush" to know how great he was.

R.I.P

Niki will forever be in our hearts.

"There is no need to drive fast. It increases the percentage of Risk." Let many more generations hear these words from the Rush movie and drive sensibly on road.

RIP to one of the greatest drivers of all time.
