Austria permits crowd-free F1 races in July 2020

Austria will allow two Formula 1 races to be held in July 2020. The races can be held at the Spielberg circuit on July 5 and 12 without spectators.

With coronavirus cases falling, Austria has eased restrictions on the movement of people. However, the International Automobile Federation (FIA) has decided that F1 teams will be limited to a maximum of 80 people each at the races.

The Austrian event organizers have also presented a detailed proposal to prevent infections during races. It includes strict hygiene measures, regular tests and health checks for teams members.

Earlier this year, F1 organizers had announced their plans to hold the opening race of the delayed 2020 season in Austria. The season finale will be held in Abu Dhabi in December.

It's great to see an effort being made to return to normalcy. We've been starved of F1 action thanks to this stupid virus. Would like to see how things work. Eagerly waiting for it!

Eagerly looking forward ! I'm craving for a good race like you wouldn't believe. This is the ONLY way for any sporting events in the near future. Hosting spectators is out of the question. And it's very doable as TV brings in most of the money anyway.

They had better be cautious. With 10 teams, they're looking at a total of 800 people in one place. I expect a lot of "virtual" meetings, within teams and between the organisers & teams.

This is very much needed - I hope the teams and drivers do participate. The world needs to start getting back to some mode of status quo; trial runs like these events that can be managed with minimal social interaction and adequate safety precautions are the perfect litmus test.

Red Bull seems to be on board; although Mercedes had indicated a negative response earlier.

The qualifying might not be what it was in the past; we probably might see a 30 min race for qualifying phase with certain conditions.
