Going by LY's race and passes made into T2, I think all the teams must be setting up their suspension to deal with the kerbs at T1!

Getting a good exit at T1 will be key, though with DRS open it is easy to crawl up behind someone and make a pass before T2.

Even ridiculous is the DRS zone between T2 and T3 which ensures that the person who could not pass into T2 can do so easily by T3!

FP1 Done and Dusted and Black Arrows leading the way currently.

The car looks incredibly sexy when on track. Finally a livery comparable to the beautiful John Players livery of the Lotus of yore.

Mercedes thoroughly dominate FP2 as well. Surprised to see Red Bull off the time sheets, but one can never take Friday timings very seriously. My guess is that Red Bull will show their true pace in FP3.

Also the current FP2 timing from Hamilton seems to be nearly one second off the last year pole position. Im not sure about this, but read this somewhere. Although I dont see the top 2 positions being challenged, the next 2-3 positions could be with anyone from Red Bull or Ferrari or even Racing point, given how strong they are now.

I was surprised too not to see Red Bull stronger.

Mercedes are starting from where they left off last year but I guess no one is surprised! The surprise though is Racing Point, with Sergio Perez landing in the top 4 in both free practices runs. The car is said to be a copy of last years Mercedes so I guess it's not very surprising.

Mclaren look very strong too this year. It would be good to have more teams as challengers. However in both runs Mercedes was half a second faster than the nearest team. Need to see whether the season's arms race can help any other team overcome this deficit.

Drive on,
Shibu.

Yes agree.

I was expecting McLaren to be slightly lower in the pecking order given their earlier financial uncertainty, but James Key and the new technical team under him seem to have got their act together. Look forward to them doing well.

Copy cat Point making the most of it.

More to come from Red Bull here, im sure.

2020 Formula 1 Season.

The 2020 Formula1 season has taken off! The season starts from today with the Austrian Grand Prix. Qualifying starts in some time. If I am right there are back to back races in consecutive weeks. There are some changes in the liveries of teams, some teams have new drivers, and some teams have new names too! The main change is seeing drivers wearing their livery matching masks!
Mercedes has switched to an all-black livery as a part of their stand against racism and to promote diversity in F1. I really liked it. Hamilton also has a change in his helmet design based on his stand against racism. Sebastian Vettel would be driving for his last season with Ferrari. Would be interesting to see how he and Charles Leclerc race against each other. Vettel would be replaced by Sainz Jr next year and there are some more changes also in the driver lineup. At the practise runs, just like last season Mercedes is on top. But these are just initial impressions.
Also looking forward to the MotoGPand WRC season, if they do start.
Cheers!

Oh my god... This start is turning out to be a nightmare for Ferrari!!!

I liked Leclercs reaction on the radio to p10 in Q2 LOL! He was flabbergasted!

Re: Formula 1: The 2020 Austrian Grand Prix (July 3 - 5, 2020)

Bottas pulled one out of the hat there to take pole. Happy for the Finn though he nearly lost it at the end when he ran off. Lucky for him Hamilton could not capitalise on the last lap finishing just 0,012s adrift of Bottas' pole lap on the previous lap.

interesting to see the Covid era driver interviews at the end. The drivers had a hard time hearing the interviewers questions.

Verstappen and Albon came good and Verstappen on mediums offers Red Bull some interesting strategy options.

Norris up in fourth. Sweet.

Is Ferrari focussing on the development of the car for the new rules in 2022? Firstly deciding not to hold on to Vettel for 2021 and instead opt for a much cheaper Sainz. Makes sense not to have an expensive driver like Vettel if you are not really going to throw everything you've got to win the championship in a season. But yeah, they look really slow compared to last year especially on the straights.

Drive on,
Shibu.
