Formula 1: 2020 Italian Grand Prix - Monza (September 04-06)

Formula 1 has reached the Temple of Speed, Monza. The famous 5.8KM long Italian track is the fastest on the current calendar in terms of average speed. Monza requires a low downforce setup, lower than the Spa Circuit. With Ferrari's unimpressive (read sad) performance at Spa, it'll be a difficult race for them. Pirelli will continue with the same tyres as in Spa (C2,C3 & C4), with a different setup in the next Italian race.

The circuit starts with a long run from the start/finish line to Variante del Rettifilo, a slow right-left-right chicane, which leads directly into Curva Grande, a long, fast right hand sweeping corner taken at up to 210 mph. Braking for Variante del Roggia is tricky in the shadows of the bridge and trees, and this left-right chicane requires accurate braking. Out of Roggia is a short run to the double-right-hand Curva di Lesmo, a tricky section which requires the use of all of the track. A good exit from the second Lesmo corner is necessary to maximise speed down the bumpy straight leading to Variante Ascari. In 2011, this straight was the first of two DRS zones on the Monza circuit. Ascari is a fast left-right-left chicane where all the run-off is used on exit. This leads to a long straight and a tricky braking point for Curva de Parabolica, an increasing radius 180° corner with a gravel trap on the outside. A good exit is essential to help with the run to the start-finish line.

From the insane high of a classic from last year, this year will be annihilation for the Tifosi at the fastest track on the calendar.

Maybe, its a blessing that fans are not allowed during the race weekend!

The team has hit rock bottom and need the next Todt, Michael & Brawn for a rescue job one more time!

I think I will just play a rerun of last years epic Monza race instead of watching this weekends live farce.

Have been watching F1 coverage on Star Sports Select 2 HD through Videocon DTH. The commentary is drowned out by the engine sound. Can’t make out the spoken words. Is anyone else facing same issue ?

Just when one thinks the Scuderia Assclowns can't sink any low , Matia & co dig even deeper. This here is the "flying lap" position they give for their driver. What you see Is Seb starting his final qualy run in Q1

Bottas towed Hamilton twice to help him break that record and get the pole position. Had Merc switched the positions which ethically they should have, Bottas would have had the pole and the record as well. Bottas is just way more talented than Hamilton, but Merc loves Lewis. Heartbreaking honestly.
"Get in there Lewis" the most undeserving champion ever!

Mercedes have had a strategy since 2017 to alternate between drivers when it comes to going out for Q3 runs. Today was Hamilton’s chance of going out first in Q3. In the previous race at Spa Bottas had the tow as Hamilton went out first.

Also Bottas has said in an interview that he did not want to use Hamilton’s slipstream because he was already close to Hamilton in Q2 and his data showed that he had not much to gain by a tow so he chose to go first for the Q3 second run.

Bottas was only beaten by less than seven hundredth of a second.

Bottas has great single lap pace and is able to push Hamilton in qualifying which is great to watch.

Hamilton took his 68th pole position with Mercedes today breaking Schumacher's career pole record.

And only Verstappen comes close to LH in terms of raw talent on the current grid. Hamilton’s tyre management skills in the Pirelli era are second to none.

You can watch the difference between skill levels of Hamilton and Bottas by reviewing the Hungary 2019 and 2020 races. Same gap to Verstappen after pit stop and the same target time. Bottas couldn’t get past MV but Hamilton caught and overtook MV.

The only difference is that Hamilton was on the softer compound.

Well, you have to thank Messers Marko and Horner on bringing this on themselves. Banning the qualifying modes has pushed RB further behind in qualifying and the gap to the RB and the midfield is much closer.

And this is not a farce. This is a well oiled organisation with highly motivated employees who love winning steam rolling everyone else.

I blame other teams for this situation.

The qualifying mode was making RB faster not the Mercedes.

MV was losing speed on the straights in the slip stream, which is strange.

Serves them right. That entire lot gargles way too much in the press. Hope they shut up now and focus on their racing.

.

Not only that, Hamilton was way Behind Bottas on each of the run to get any kind of a tow. I think Mercedes realised with the raw pace the tow was not helping much. It was Max who took the tow off Hamilton both the times in Q3 and even in Q2. It would be great to view the stats on what Max would have achieved without the tow. I do not think Redbull is slower than Mclaren on single lap.

It is not slower than McLaren on a single lap but they are now because of the engine mode ban. Honda has lost big time due to this ban. But we should wait and see what happens in Mugello

Renault has gained the most die to engine mode ban and also it seems that McLaren have a good chassis.

Also Monza has never been a good track for RB in the recent past.

What is happening at Ferrari? It's as if they've already given up, so much so that the press is wondering if next year's drivers may be worrying about moving down. History, "passion ", "soul" are not for selling merchandise. At least be mid rung.

In Monza, even if you are 7 seconds behind another driver in front, you could get a tow.
