Mika Hakkinen's famous overtaking

Remember the famous overtaking maneuvre Mika did on Schumacher with the hapless backmarker Ricardo Zonta in the middle, in the Spa-Francorchamps 2000 ?

The clip from Mika's driver view:

Also watch the Eau Rouge taken at full speed. And the view from Zonta as the 2 cars shoot past him.

Heil Master Mika.

Man that was awesome......it was like a flash of lightening from Zonta's point of view I guess! Brought back memories of Mika's amazing moments

Just had to smile when I saw this thread title, cos I knew what overtaking move you are talking about. This is the stuff that true champions are made of.

I dont remember the exact words of his post-race interview, but he said something on the lines of "Its no point to try to follow the Michael......"

Yup. He said it as nonchalantly as if he were taking about brushing his teeth. What a man.

Yup, seen the title and remembered the exact moments. The besttttt ever move made by Hakkinen. Truly, he was a great driver. Yes, he failed to deliver at the end of his career because of a slow car.

What amazing skills!!

I still remember watching this race live with my brother (both of us supporting Schumi), but when Hakkinen did this move! O my god! It was the best one we had ever seen.

I also remember, in one of the Grand Prix, when Villeneuve (in the old fast Williams) went all the way on the outside of Schumi on an extremely fast bend. Although that had skill and power of the car playing as well.

anyone know the overtaking rules from back then? never see so much passing/passing attempts these days. did they have the rule that you cant move over more than once to block the person behind you??

wohooo... will never forget that move!!! Never seen anything like that since... always been a die-hard fan of the silver arrows, even when they were struggling to match-up. Finally they're back this year... and there's a BIG WIDE grin on my face
