Formula 1 | 2021 Italian Grand Prix | Monza | 10-12 September, 2021

The Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, based north of Milan, is one of Formula 1's most iconic circuits. Except for 1980, Monza has hosted every Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix since the series began in 1950.
This 3.6-mile track with 11 turns is one that demands commitment and speed from drivers, and most of the lap is taken at full throttle thanks to the long straights and sweeping corners.
While the V6 turbo-hybrid engines are not a patch on the beasts that preceded them, F1 cars will still reach speeds of over 220mph around Monza.
And, as if the track isn't demanding enough, the 'Tifosi watching on supporting their beloved Ferrari sre not afraid to let their voices be heard.

Curva Parabolica will be renamed Curva Alboreto in honor of Michele Alboreto this weekend.

Having witnessed the banked corners at Zandvoort and being royally pissed off by the reprofiling and consequent neutering of Parabolica with that tarmac car park runoff, I wish they reconsidered integrating the abandoned Oval's banked section (Pista di Alta Velocitą) into the current track. Probably wildly unsafe by current safety standards (could always reprofile the recline), but a fan can dream.

Imagine coming out of Ascari, down the back straight and taking the banked section onto the start-finish straight.

This slipstreaming nonsense in qualifying is a major shunt waiting to happen. Half a dozen near-misses just in Q1.

Edit: And now one in the pit-lane! Vettel released right into Hamilton's path, and a car could've easily collected Ocon's spotter.

I think that Alfa Romeo's special livery for Monza is the best special livery I have see in a while.

Well done Bottas, Max & Riccardo. Norris did a fine job keeping Hamilton behind. But to be honest, it’s not a easy track to overtake. That’s why Alonso’s move on Vettel was special. It’s such a treat to have him back and in car that can at times give him the freedom to fight a little.

I suppose it is all on strategy tomorrow. Monza can throw a few surprises now and then.

Re: Formula 1 | 2021 Italian Grand Prix | Monza | 10-12 September, 2021

Great sprint today and a sweet win for Bottas. And it did the job of shaking down the starting grid for the race tommorrow. Daniel Riccardo as race winner tommorrow?

I think the talking point of this weekend is the McLaren's and their Mercedes beating pace. They look in terrific form and Norris was able to keep Hamilton behind without breaking into a sweat. Great to see the Honey Badger return back to form - in style too - with a 3rd in the sprint and a front row start. He has got some unfinished business with Verstappen back when they were team mates at Red Bull. Fascinating to see how that plays out at the start tommorrow.

The Red Bull car never ceases to amaze me. The ways in which that chassis allows itself to be aerodynamically profiled to be competitive in the hands of a good driver is amazing. Even with the Renault power plant. Adrian Newey's genius proves itself over and over again. It does not have an over reliance on the power plant. If the power plant is competitive the aero is there to do the rest. You would think that a miniscule rear wing would cause trade-offs in corners but the car still is very competitive in the twisty bits and slower corners too. And on the twistier circuits it's a beast.

Alonso in the Alpine looked quite racy today. And his pass on Vettel today harked back to the old days. The Williams while strong in some of the slower circuits obviously has a lot of ground to make up on the faster circuits like Monza.

Drive on,
Shibu.

Nice sprint today, happy to see Ricciardo showing some pace at the temple to speed. Would be a nice dual between the two old team members.

Hamilton had a horrendous start and it has to be seen what would Mercedes plan in order to get as many points for Hamilton and not fall too back in the championship points as this track is not easy to overtake.

Go Danny! What a start. Hopefully the McLaren pitwall is up for it today.

Massive crash with the two championship contenders and in the slow motion replay, that Halo saved Hamilton's head quite literally.
Will be interesting now to see how Mercedes uses Bottas and if Mclaren / Danny boy can get their first win in a long time!

Bottas is on fire! What have they got on the #77 Merc's setup that wasn't on #44?

He's up to 4th and lapping more than a second quicker than the top 3. Wow!

Australian-Italian Daniel Ricciardo wins the Italian Grand Prix! Regardless of the race result, Max manages to stay on TOP.

Monza is a sacred place, and we all love it !! McLaren are back and how. Once again halo proved it's worthiness, you beautiful ugly thing
Hope both merc and redbull engines are fine. Driver of the day should have been Bottas IMO, agreed he's driving the best car on the grid, but it was massive effort from the back of the grid. And what's with post race interview, dude can't even have it without Lewis overshadowing him. "It's unfortunate " well that's an understatement Valtteri

Re: Formula 1 | 2021 Italian Grand Prix | Monza | 10-12 September, 2021

Well, see how much of a difference a half second or even 2 tenths could have made. If only Hamilton pitted in 4.2 or 4.4 seconds. Hamilton entered into the turn giving verstappan room but verstappan went a little faster into it. I think it was always Hamilton's plan to shut the door in the middle of the chicane. Meanwhile, verstappan must have expected the usual people-giving-way tactic to work, but it didn't. I believe both were at fault, but FIA will bend over backwards to penalise Hamilton, I'm sure.

But what a win!!
Finally the team that made me start f1 is back at the top! Bummer though, that Norris did all the hard work leading up to this race, but ricci became the superstar with a win.
Here's to great things for both of them, and for mclaren.
As for the championship, that just became a blood duel for the remainder of the season. Bring it!!

Re: Formula 1 | 2021 Italian Grand Prix | Monza | 10-12 September, 2021

The way Bottas drove today is in another level. Might be due to different setup or perks of using new engine.

Also good to see Ricciardo back to top spots and clinching the fastest lap in last lap looked like they were sand bagging for a while for tire or fuel management, but could have defended if Perez attacked them.

Regarding Max and Hamilton crash, we had few quite weeks between Toto and Horner.. This week is gonna be busy with war of words from both sides.

Great to see McLaren back in style! DC interviewing BOT was more about trying to get BOT's opinion on the VER and HAM incident. He should have kept his questions more on the brilliant drive from the back to third.
