Formula 1 to start using sustainable fuel from 2026; Part of its 2030 net-zero carbon programme

Formula1 will soon be making use of sustainable fuel as part of its pledge to become carbon-neutral by 2030. According to a media report, F1 cars will start using synthetic fuels from 2026, in line with the sport's regulation changes scheduled to take come into effect the same year.

Reports suggest that from 2026, the next iteration of the hybrid engines will be powered by synthetic fuel, which will allow the sport to move one step closer to its net-zero carbon goals by the decade-end.

F1 also hopes that the use of synthetic fuel in the sport will help push its use on standard IC engines and will be rolled out across the car industry in the future. Reports state that only 1% of the world's cars were hybrid or electric in 2020. Hence, F1 wants to become a force to increase the numbers in the future.

Apart from the introduction of synthetic fuels, F1 is also taking various steps toward achieving carbon neutrality. This includes remote broadcast operations to reduce freights. The sport is also said to have redesigned its freight containers so they can be shipped around the world more efficiently.

This is very nice. All F1 tech eventually trickles down to passenger vehicles.
Goodbye soulless EVs and musk empire. Hello green vrooms! Let's just hope that this synth-juice packs a wallop like diesel and sounds like petrol.
