Kicking off in Bahrain on March 5 and concluding in Abu Dhabi on November 26, the season will feature a record-breaking 24 races, with China and Qatar set to return, and Las Vegas arriving as the penultimate round for a Saturday night race.

The traditional summer break will remain in August, though changes to race dates see Belgium move to the end of July as a back-to-back with Hungary, while the Netherlands is twinned with Italy after the restart.

Re: Formula 1 : 2023 Season

This is a very packed calendar. I wonder how the teams will cope? There were rumblings already this season about the amount of travel the team members are having to do.

Interestingly, the Las Vegas race is scheduled for a Saturday. Wonder why?

Maybe they want it to be a night race spectacle. And Sunday night would mean Monday late morning/afternoon in certain parts of Europe/Asia.

Re: Formula 1 : 2023 Season

And I heard that they will increase the number of engines allowed to use throughout the season only by 1 making it 4 for the entire season Which means all the teams will have to take a penalty no matter what. Penalty should be applied only for violations where teams are trying to gain something in an unfair manner. Here teams don't have any choice especially with addition of 6 sprint races too, they will go over the limit no matter what.

Just TWO SEATS remain on the #F1 2023 grid!

Who's filling them?

24 races is a tad too lot and taxing on the drivers, crew and staff isnt it?
Criss-crossing the globe with so much material could be a logistics nightmare that comes at a cost (especially looking at the budget cap).

Nonetheless, for the fans and media, it could be fun.

Rooting for Budh to be added in 2024 in lieu of some boring tracks, especially given the fact that MotoGP is heading to Budh.

Re: Formula 1 : 2023 Season

4 races in North America is proof that Liberty Media want to make a difference in the US market, though F1 will never be as popular as NASCAR or Indy. Still, all the tracks are excellent. Really want India to be back on the calendar but with this sort of competition where attendance of 200,000+ is normal, don't really expect such a thing.
Guess we will have to suffice with potential MotoGP and Formula e promises for the future...

(Slightly off topic, the WRC makes a lot of sense for the continent with major manufacturer involvement, except Ford perhaps...it would be amazing to have a World Rally event in the Himalayas, bet that will beat any other high altitude event on the current calendar)

Re: Formula 1 : 2023 Season

Seems like the F1 lineup for 2023 is all set except for a caveat that rookie Logan Sargeant will only get the final seat at Williams once he qualifies for his F1 superlicence.

Note: How does the F1 superlicence work?

Re: Formula 1 : 2023 Season

To all those hoping for F1 to return to India, I bet they'll wait and watch the reception MotoGP receives in the next 2 years.

Plus the govt needs to pull their socks up and declare it as a sporting event and not entertainment.

I am quite skeptical about the reception MotoGP will receive here, given what happened with F1 earlier.
Even X1 Racing, which was a 'free to attend' event at the BIC (to my shock and pleasant surprise) went nowhere.
For acceptance of motorsports, we need 'track day' culture, be it on any car with new tyres (not only for the GT3 RS owners)..then only the 'culture' will be spread, not just with bringing international brands.

Re: Formula 1 : 2023 Season

American driver Logan Sargeant will be racing along Alex Albon in Williams in next season.

Williams have confirmed that American driver Logan Sargeant will be stepping into a full-time race seat alongside Alex Albon for 2023, following the conclusion of the 2022 Formula 2 season.

Sargeant headed into the Abu Dhabi F2 season finale needing to score 10 Super Licence points in order to meet the required threshold to compete in Formula 1 – with Sargeant easily surpassing that figure by securing P4 in the final drivers’ standings.

Re: Formula 1 : 2023 Season

Changes for 2023

Rain races: Finally, they seem willing to do something so that Formula 1 does not lose the races in the rain, which delight the fans, but in recent years were conspicuous by their absence. The FIA is committed to finding ways to reduce the spray that limits visibility.

The FIA will define a standard kit to add to the water racing cars that avoid the aforementioned spray. In other words, add, in some way, mudguards in a standardized way for each car. They have also set out to understand the channeling of water through vehicles and its influence on the ground effect. It should be said that they will always be removable and put kits, and that they will only be used in water conditions.

Penalties for excess components: The commission has considered that the sanctions that are given for exceeding the limit of components do not imply a penalty that prevents teams from playing strategically, encouraging the release of more pieces than necessary, which would go against the principle of prioritizing cost containment.

Tyre blankets: The goal remains that there are no blankets to warm tires in the 2024 season, although the final decision will not be made until July 2023, to take into account the opinions of the drivers, who have already complained about the tests that Pirelli has done in which it has not eliminated the blankets, but reduced the temperature of use.

More use of DRS: Currently, the use of DRS is banned until the third lap of the race. It will be evaluated that from now on, the DRS can be used already from the first lap, as well as from the restart after a safety car. The tests will be done in the Saturday races of 2023 with the intention of standardizing it already in 2024.

Evaluation of the closed park in a Sprint Grand Prix: Work will be done to simplify the procedures, especially considering that on Friday the closed park begins in qualifying, which then however partially lifts on Saturday for the second free practice.

Accident compensation: With the budget limit in place, the teams showed their concern about the accidents that could be had in the sprint races, and main reason that in 2022 there were only three events, since there was no agreement between FIA, F1 and teams. Now, compensation of $300,000 is proposed.

Anti-roll structure: In 2024, the rollover bar of the vehicles will be further reinforced after a design vulnerability allowed by the FIA was detected following the accident suffered by Guanyou Zhou at the British Grand Prix.
