2022 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix | Marina Bay Street Circuit | 30 September - 02 October

F1 is back to Singapore.

However more than racing, the focus seems to be on Red Bull and Aston Martin being accused of exceeding the 2021 budget cap. Instead of speculating, it would be best to wait till the FIA comes out with their findings.

Let's hope for a great race. The first few laps would be interesting considering the starting grid.

Interesting fact: Kevin Magnussen still holds the lap record that he had set in 2018.

Details of the Singapore track from Formula1.com

When was the track built?
The Marina Bay Circuit arrived on the scene in 2008. A street track with the city's famous skyline as its spectacular backdrop, the initial circuit plan by Herman Tilke was refined by KBR Inc, while the event has quickly established itself as one of the standouts on the F1 calendar.

When was its first Grand Prix?
In 2008, Singapore had the honour of hosting the first night-time race in F1 history. The Grand Prix – the 15th round of that season – proved a huge hit with the teams and drivers, while Renault’s Fernando Alonso claimed a controversial victory.

What’s the circuit like?
The 5.063km Marina Bay Circuit is one of the most physically demanding on the calendar, its bumpy street surface coupled with humid conditions giving the drivers plenty to think about. With 23 corners, they are working the wheel a lot, too, around the high-speed lap – the physical stress causing them to lose as much as 3kg over the course of a race. The circuit also boasts some of the most unique features of any track on the F1 calendar, including Turn 18, which actually sees the drivers pass underneath a grandstand.

Why go?
If you want to see Singapore at its best, there’s no better time to do so than when Formula 1 arrives in the heart of this buzzing city. Get the lay of the land by taking a ride on the Singapore Flyer, a giant Ferris wheel overlooking the track’s permanent pits complex, then get stuck into Singapore’s incredible bar and restaurant scene. Cocktail fanatics should also make a pilgrimage to the famous Raffles Hotel – the proper home of the Singapore Sling (non-alcoholic versions are available!)

Where is the best place to watch?
Get yourself comfy in the grandstand located at Turn 1, which offers spectacular views as the cars accelerate into the first corner, before braking hard and whipping through Turns 2 and 3. You’ll get a great view of the start too – expect to see plenty of sparks fly as the drivers blast off the line.

So there are 6 different cars starting from the first 7 spots on the grid. Been a while since this occurred.

Could have been different if Max wasn't forced to abort his final lap due to the miscalculated amount of fuel left in his car. Rare goof up from some one in Red Bull.

Is the race start at 5:30 Pm? As per F1.com it is, but Hotstar is yet to start telecast. Also saw a note on delay in start due to rain on F1.com

What an utterly boring race, albeit very happening, with the no. of retirements, multiple VSC/SC and Verstappen keeping himself entertained. Superb race from Perez to lead from start to finish.

Nothing more to be honest; this circuit is hardly that sporting.

Absolutely true, this and Monaco are in same category. Although I would put Singapore slightly above Monaco gp because everytime there is some sort of dram with safety car. Although this time with rain coming into picture, it was got pretty interesting.

On another note, earlier in the season street circuits were Ferrari's strong point. Now they hardly seem to be competitive even high downforce circuits. This was the last decent chance for them to win a race. I don't see them winning any of the remaining races unless both the redbull's retire.

Agree, boring race like anything. Rain /wet conditions makes these in-street race tracks such a bore - no one is happy; not the drivers, not the teams and certainly not the spectators. While on the other hand, rain in the open field race tracks make for good fun.

Superb racing by Perez and Leclarc. They both were miles ahead of every other driver within minimal faults made. I do hope Perez's not given a 10s penalty as what Ferrari are hoping for. It would ruin the moment; and neither would Leclarc really enjoy it now.

What's the penalty usually given for safety car infringement. Some places it is reported as 5 seconds and some say 10 seconds. Has any driver penalised for such infringement in the past?

Perez deserved this win. Whenever he and Leclerc disappeared ahead, safety car nullified their lead. And Leclerc's chase after the last safety car was very interesting.

The fight between Vettel, Verstappen, Hamilton was another highlight of this race.

Thankfully Perez held on to the win after the 5 second penalty.

Re: 2022 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix | Marina Bay Street Circuit | 30 September - 02 October

McLaren had sent me an invitation to the Singapore F1 race which included:

1. A seat on their special lounge which included an all day world class menu, free flowing champagne, fine wines and spirits.

2. Access to their Amber private lounge with bespoke cocktails, canapes and entertainment.

3. Meet the drivers and compete (!!) with them,

4. Meet with the entire McLaren team and see the action behind the scenes,

5. Gifts from McLaren,

6. Hotel accomodation at Raffles, air tickets to and from home city, and transfers from the hotel to the McLaren Skysuite.

Was too good to be true..until I saw the catch:

Re: 2022 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix | Marina Bay Street Circuit | 30 September - 02 October

'The Race' was running articles on how Perez has been severely underperforming in the last few races. With his stellar performance yesterday, Perez has given a good reply to those journalists.

A rare race from Verstappen which he messed up with an unusually bad start and a lock up which nullified his chances of even a top 5 finish. His reactions after the qualifiers, although understandable, was uncalled for.

Boring race. Rain, VSC, Safety car didnt manage to bring any excitement to this circuit. They seriously need to change something up here to make it more interesting and more chances for overtakes.
Perez's ace drive was stellar! Well deserved.

Street tracks are always boring. The only way they can make it exciting is, if they brought back refueling.
