| 2022 Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix | Suzuka | 07 - 09 October Surprised to not find a thread on the Japanese GP, guess BHPian Scarlet_Rider who usually creates a thread for all races gave up or found the season to be boring. To put it in short: What a farce of a show was put on by the FIA at Suzuka, with no authoritative decision-making, a very harsh penalty for Charles Leclerc and we almost had a repeat of the Jules Bianchi accident. Having been following F1 since '07, FIA and their group of so-called "stewards" are taking the sport down race by race. |

| re: 2022 Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix | Suzuka | 07 - 09 October Hats off to the drivers. I wonder how did they manage to see anything beyond that water spray from the cars in front. And what were RedBulls on yesterday? Both Verstappen and Perez were substantially faster than Charles who seemed to be struggling biiiig time on intermediates. |

| Re: 2022 Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix | Suzuka | 07 - 09 October What a boring yet exciting race - Turn 1 move by Max on the outside was solid. - Vettel got spun, Stroll rocketed past the grid. - Sainz crash. Nothing he could do to avoid it. - The whole Tractor on the track fiasco! Listening to the commentary, was even more shocking where the blame was being placed on Gasly! At one point, Karun Chandok was the only one talking sense and calling out FIA for the blunder. Sainz on board even showed a Marshall trying to move the car as Gasly passed by. All the drivers enraged and rightly so. BTW, Gasly has been given a drive-through penalty and given penalty points on his Super Licence for the incident. - The painstakingly long wait before the restart. - Lots of action in the mid field once the race started. Vettel and Latifi gambling to switch early on Inters which paid off royally at the end. - Mick Schumacher led a race! Albeit for just for a few meters, but still. Was worth the gamble. A safety car at that time would've been very interesting. - Merc goof up with the double stacking was unpleasant. Russel suffered because of that. - Ocon finally defending like a lion and succeeding in keeping Lewis at bay. Quite a few close calls at 130R. - Max was just flying into the distance. Created a 28 second lead in 29 laps! Guess there was nothing stopping him. - Charles drove brilliantly considering the heavy degradation on his tyres (Check the image at the bottom). The Ferrari is fast, but it sure is ruthless on tyres. Checo managed his tyres well throughout as he always does. The last lap battle was exciting. Too bad Charles couldn't avoid making the error. The penalty was fair, even he said it himself. He could've given the place and fought for it on the next lap, but the race ended, so the penalty was the only way. - Not much footage on Vettel vs Alonso last lap battle. Apparently Vettel thought the race was over, but then realised there was one more lap to go. Quite a close finish there. - Max and Red Bull have had a brilliant season. They've not only improved the car over the course of the season, but Max has made sure he got the most out of it. A well deserved championship. Distinguished - BHPian | Re: 2022 Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix | Suzuka | 07 - 09 October What a boring race (for the section that was washed out) and yet what a brilliant & fun race (for the last ~1 hour of racing). My heart goes out to Hamilton for not being able to overtake Ocon - he tried so hard. And it's a pity they weren't able to showcase the ending part of the last lap of Alonso & Vettel; apparently they both crossed the finish line almost at the same time; with a difference of only 0.011s. Quote:
Charles's after race comments are worth listening to - that man talks sense and logical. He repeated his earlier comment (made during a previous grand prix) of how the tires on his Ferrari start degrading faster than as compared to the Red Bull's tires. Visible proof in @Omkar's post.
