McLaren and Ferrari are looking quick as expected and so is BMW. Ofcourse pre-season testing times mean nothing, but it helps in killing time till the first race.
I like to look at the number of laps rather along with the times as more number of laps and a "decent" time means that the team is going strong. Since the regulations arent going to change much next year, I expect the field to stay the way it was this year.
I'd like to see Honda move up the order though, they really shouldnt be languishing at the bottom like they did this year.

Kubica's time was set on slicks and using 2008 downforce specification.Massa and Hamilton used grooved tyres and 2008 downforce specification.Michael was testing with 2009 downforce specification and slick tyres. His time was set in the morning on grooved tyres.

7-12-2007

Michael set his time with 2009 downforce specification and slick tyres which is amazing,Nick was 3.5secs off the pace using the same setup .All others except Massa set their times on slicks and 2008 downforce specification.

From Autosport
Quote:
Although Nico Rosberg, also on slicks, ended up third quickest despite a spectacular engine blow-up in the afternoon, a lot of eyebrows were raised when Michael Schumacher set the fourth quickest time running slick tyres but with 2009 levels of downforce.
A lot of drivers have struggled to get speed out of the estimated 30 percent cut in downforce levels experienced this week but, despite a spin at Turn Two early in the day, Schumacher still managed to set a time less than one second off Vettel's best.

yes,it is confusing because there were many new things being tested. Some drivers were on slick tyres which are faster than normal tyres but some others were trying out slick tyres with 2009 aero regulations that demand 30%reduction in downforce.Overall in terms of speed they rank as follows
  1. Slick Tyres + 2008 aero
  2. Grooved tyres + 2008 aero
  3. Slick Tyres + 2009 aero

Were these cars running with traction control disabled? Anyway, i'm gonna wait till the the season starts. Tests can't be taken seriously. A lot can change in 4 months time.
