excerpts from the rediff link:

http://in.rediff.com/sports/2005/feb/01karth.htm

Indian driver Narain Karthikeyan will drive for Jordan in the 2005 Formula One season after securing an offer from the team, his manager said on Tuesday.

"Narain has been offered a full drive by Jordan as their number one driver. He has accepted it," Sanjay Sharma said.

Sharma said Narain had given his confirmation to Jordan and would address a news conference in Mumbai later on Tuesday.

Jordan have yet to announce their drivers for the 2005 season, which starts next month.

Narain, 28, was the first Indian to drive a Formula One car and has test driven for Jordan, Jaguar and Minardi in the last three years.

Minardi offered him a drive in 2003, but Narain missed out as he was unable to raise the huge sum required to secure the offer.

Narain currently drives in the World Series Championships

According to the BBC news :
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/moto...ne/4224963.stm

Karthikeyan 'handed Jordan drive'

Jordan were taken over after finishing ninth last season
India's Narain Karthikeyan has secured a Formula One drive with Jordan in 2005, according to his manager.
"Narain has been offered a drive by Jordan as their number one. He has accepted," Sanjay Sharma told Reuters.
Sharma said Narain, who has tested for Jordan, Jaguar and Minardi in the last three years, would hold a news conference in Bombay later on Tuesday.

Jordan, who were recently taken over by the Midland group, are yet to announce their drivers for the new season.
However, Midland F1 managing director Colin Kolles has expressed an interest in signing BAR test driver Anthony Davidson.

Narain, 28, was the first Indian to drive a Formula One car and last year raced for Red Bull in the World Series by Nissan.
He was offered an F1 drive by Minardi in 2003 but was unable to raise the huge sum required to secure the offer.
However, his F1 hopes were boosted by Midland's takeover of Jordan and the presence of Midland sporting director Trevor Carlin, for whom he raced in the British Formula Three.
"Trevor Carlin's presence was big plus as he had always bet on Narain's capabilities," said Sharma.

Whatever the amount, its actually nice to see an Indian company cough up a substantial amount for sport other than Cricket. As far as I remember Narain had lost a drive at Minardi for races just because Tata couldnt shell out 5 crores in a time span of 4 days saying it wasnt enough time.

I really hope Narain makes it this time. They says its confirmed but I want to hear it from the horses mouth itself.

Waiting to see the Indian tri coloured helmet on the grid this season
