An exciting season awaits us all

With so many major changes to this years cars in terms of KERS, slick tyres, new aerodynamics regulations almost all manufacturers have had to go back to the drawing board and start afresh with an entirely new design.

Sure is going to be a thrilling season ahead!

Cheers,

Mclaren had aerodynamic trouble which caused a rear brake failure in the last week's testing.

But, I would never count them out mate.

Mclaren is getting a new diffuser for their testing today and also the aerodynamic upgrades which can be seen in the pictures. Specifically the rear wing, front wing, floor pane, engine cover and the exhaust.

And by the times recorded during testing u can never come to any conclusions.

If i am not wrong this is the final testing session allowed and is there enough time for one to test in wind tunnel, get it manufactured and then execute them without much testing (if it all they are in right direction or not), i really doubt. Also there is also no in season testing from this year which will make it all the more difficult if they are not sandbagging, which i think they are

@Raj, you are absolutely right there about the testing!

I have been saying that Mclaren will be strong because they already have a strong background in the KERS/Similar technology back in 1998. Which was more than 10 years back. If you remember the OZ GP back in 1998 where they did a clean sweap, Ferrari fought it out to get the system banned. I am sure they can get things right on the KERS.

Also, Mclaren has got a spectacular simulator system and I read reports that the drivers have been spending a lot of time on the simulator. I feel they are working hard to get the simulator to perfection since the in-season is banned this season and a perfect simulator can make things more easy for a team for in-season development.

I have a strong feeling that Mclaren is sandbagging. I might be wrong.

But I am sure of one thing, the OZ GP is going to be filled with a lot of surprises!

Sandbagging does not really help the teams, with reduce test mileage. They have to have a show of cards at some point - Ferrari have shown theirs at Barcelona now, with Kimi Raikonnen going fastest in todays testing. Note that both his and Nick Heidfield's times from yesterday are much faster than last year qualifying or practice times, so the times should be real. Until today, Ferrari was content in playing second fiddle to whoever was on top.

The teams have to use their precious testing time to make sure that the simulator data is matched in the real world. I believe Mclaren has a real problem with rear wing - hopefully, it will not get sorted out before Melbourne

You see the fastest time from Kimi since he was scheduled a 3 lap qualifying simulation. The time was on his first run. During his race simulation he had problems with the KERS cooling and had to return to the pits. This problem was similar to the one which Ferrari encountered last time. It took them 4 hours to get the car up.

I have a feeling that Ferrari/any team is going to be much quicker than the testing times what you see them do.

No team has shown their actual speed/potential yet! I can bet on this !

I wish the same!

Would be nice to see Lewis fight things out with his friend Addy on track!

Monday test pace genuine - Ross Brawn
Team upbeat over pace of BGP001 challenger

10/03/09 14:18

Ross Brawn insists Jenson Button's sterling pace at the wheel of the new BGP001 on Monday was genuine.

Despite the Brackley-based team sitting out most of the winter amid uncertainty about its future, the rebranded 'Brawn GP' car had heads turning at Barcelona as it went against every other rival car.

Button topped the morning session with the Mercedes-powered machine and was bettered only by the impressive BMW, Ferrari and Toyota by close of play at the Spanish venue.

But was the pace genuine or had the team drained the fuel tanks, possibly in a bid to entice sponsors?

"If everyone knew how much fuel we had on board, they would be surprised," Brawn told Auto Motor und Sport, who said the Briton was 'smiling' as he gave his answer.

"Even our engine partner Mercedes didn't believe it when we told them," he added.

Long before team owner Honda announced its departure from the sport, Brawn and his team colleagues were predicting a strong 2009 for what was intended to be the RA109 car.

"On the basis of our simulations, we knew what lap times this car would do theoretically at Jerez, Bahrain and Barcelona. When we saw the times of the competition, we were surprised they were not quicker," Brawn revealed.

Most teams wrap up their 2009 pre-season programmes this week, but Brawn GP will conduct a final three days of testing at Jerez next week.

I am really amazed by the Brawn F1 car times. They have had hardly any testing and yet they have excellent times.

Button breaks into the 1.19's in Barcelona - Now this should make for an interesting grid in Melbourne.

Imagine - Barrichello the old warhorse fighting Button for the championship. Can the script get any better?
