we might as start a new discussion thread on 2010 season as of right now.
@mods, want to think about it? or has it already been addressed?

autosport.com - F1 News: Santander to announce Ferrari deal

Santander will be expected to confirm that they are switching to Ferrari from McLaren tomorrow at a press conference at 16:00 (Italian time). It is widely expected that Alonso's future at Ferrari, if there is one, will be announced together. Santander sponsored McLaren exclusively when he signed up for the team in 2007. Alonso got out, but Santander could not. Now they are poised to switch. Looks like D-Day for this thread is finally here.

The best driver in the current line up(2 WDC and 21 wins to his credit).Even though i personally done like Nando it is always a good news than Fisi moving to Ferrari. Fisi was always an underperformer (Remember what he acheived in a championship winning Renault in 05 and 06)

Santander signs five-year Ferrari deal

autosport.com - F1 News: Santander signs five-year Ferrari deal

No mention about Alonso anywhere. May be he is not going there next year.
There are too many things going on right now which can affect Ferrari-Alonso deal, so Ferrari may have decided to maintain the status quo.

autosport.com - F1 News: Montezemolo: Alonso will join Ferrari

Finally an end to all 2010 Alonso speculation?

Quote:
Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo says Fernando Alonso will sooner or later drive for the historic Italian squad, but the boss suggested it will not happen next year."
...
"Sooner or later I'll make it happen. We'll see when," di Montezemolo told Spanish reporters at Monza.

"For next year we have Raikkonen, Massa, Fisichella, Badoer, Gene, and I hope Michael Schumacher, so we have a bench as long as Real Madrid's.

"We have two great champions with the 2007 champion and the man who was 2008 champion for 15 seconds when he crossed the line. So I think we have two extraordinary drivers."

Probably the first time he openly admitted about this! Definitely Alonso won't be in Ferrari next year.
I think Massa's accident has played some role in Ferrari not having Alonso next year. If the accident hadn't happened, Ferrari would have paid off Raikkonen and got Alonso on board. Now with uncertainty over Massa's comeback getting rid of Raikkonen was definitely not a good move as they would have found themselves with two new drivers in the team for next year.

So finally we know these things now
  • Alonso will not be in Ferrari
  • Kimi will stay in Ferrari
  • Massa will be the first choice for second seat whenever he gets fit. Fisi will be the stand by if Massa isn't fit by the start of next season.

for all that massa will want to prove at Ferrari, he'll make sure he'll sit in a ferrari as much as possible and not give fisi a chance. assuming kimi doesn't bungle up.
this in turn takes fisi out of the action of the races. Will he end up becoming another Luca Badoer? remember out of sight is out of mind.
atleast he is in action and getting his due in FI.

The is no guarentee that Massa will be as sharp as ever and as fast...after that head injury.

But I guess Ferrari are not going to check that before they put him in the car.

I think Fisi's joy at driving for Ferrari outweighs any such concerns. Besides, a stint at Ferrari doesn't mean he can't rejoin Force India or some other team if indeed Ferrari relegate him to a test driver role and he is unhappy with that.

I think this is great news - Kimi, Massa & Fisi; I think it was quite clear to Fisi when they made him the offer that he may be relegated to test driver if/when Massa is back so I don't think he'd be very unhappy about it....after all, being part of the Scarlet team should be motivation enough for him

So where does Alonso go now? Looks like Renault may be banned for next season. Macca and Ferrari are no longer options. Red Bull and Brawn don't seem unhappy with their line up and anyway, Brawn would struggle to pay a guy like Alonso. So he's in no man's land really. He may have to take a pay cut or get into another midfield team or both!
