dont worry.
capital/NCR police are VERY good at providing security at one venue, at one time.

Re: Updates on the Indian F1 track (Buddh International Circuit)

Me and my 3 friends have booked for the race weekend Classic Stand 1 East Block G!!! Cant wait.

I also had the shortlist for the Officials training but have to give it a miss due to my Term End exams and my dream of being involved in the First ever Indian GP is gone :'(. My role will now only be limited to a spectator. But yeah, i ll watch Schumi and Alonso burn rubber in my backyard!

Re: Updates on the Indian F1 track (Buddh International Circuit)

Am very excited to be a part of the Marshall team. Went for a very productive training on 9th from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and the next one is scheduled today from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and that too on the track. Met many BHPians and expecting to meet more whom i missed yesterday

Have to stay awake for 48 hours in a stretch to cater to both work and my dream.

Tax issue clouds build-up to Indian GP!

Tax issue clouds build-up to Indian GP

Source : Tax issue clouds build-up to Indian GP | YallaF1.com

Quote:
McLaren team boss Martin Whitmarsh has played down fears that a tax wrangle, which may affect drivers, could jeopardise next month’s inaugural Indian Formula One Grand Prix.

The Briton, who is chairman of the teams’ association FOTA, said Indian tax law posed a problem but rejected speculation that it could be serious enough to prevent the teams travelling to Delhi for the Oct. 30 race.
“I’m sure we will be in India racing but it’s an issue that we’ve got to get resolved,” he told Reuters at the Italian Grand Prix. “It’s not resolved at the moment. It needs to be resolved, it’s not straightforward.

“The teams are working together and we need to find a way in which the teams can feel confident that they are able to leave with their passports at the end of it (the race),” he smiled.

The 12 teams are concerned that they and their drivers could be hit by hefty tax demands, potentially on 1/19th of their incomes because of India being one of 19 races.

“Normally the bigger threat is to the driver than to the teams,” said Whitmarsh. “But there are some debates about whether 1/19th of revenues are taxable in India.”

India exempted the cricket World Cup from income tax earlier in the year, however.

The government also granted tax exemption on income to residents and non-residents alike gained from international sporting events in India in 2006, when the country hosted the IIC Champions Trophy cricket tournament.
Hope the matter will be sorted out as early as possible.

Cheers!

Re: Updates on the Indian F1 track (Buddh International Circuit)

By looking into the following source for recent update on BIC Indian F1 track

SkyscraperCity - View Single Post - Greater Noida | Formula 1 - Buddh International Circuit | U/C

The progress seems good. But, I don't believe they can complete the main grandstand roofing in next 7 odd weeks. All the cranes/stands working for the roof had been cleared and the track work is progressing. It will be a definite eyesore.

Anyway waiting for another high-speed race.

Cheers!

Work on the roofing is almost complete and is going on - even in one of the pictures posted, you can see a lift crane working on the outer edge of the grandstand roofing.

I am not sure if BIC guys are going to like this. We were told not to take pics or (those who did shoot) distribute them.

That is true, BUT
1. Clear instructions were given not to post these photos in places accessible by the public.
2. If you did post photos then you could lose your place as a marshal
3. Chief Marshal is a very active member here!

Re: Updates on the Indian F1 track (Buddh International Circuit)

Jackassery Strikes again

F1 runs into customs roadblock

Times of India Publications

a couple of pointers:

1. Authorities refusal to accept f1 as a sport.
yes, in india, nothing except cricket can be classified, or treated as sport.
Even our national game.

2. 2% of the amount will be retained by the authorities.
of 600Cr.
Thats 12 Cr.
Someone's seen this clause, and , "hey, easy money!!"

3. Were these morons sleeping till now?
Or just waiting till JP has nowhere else to go, but just cough up the amount.
Long term efficacy of the project be damned.

Sirjis, i have a feeling that the delhi f1 may be a once-in-a-lifetime affair too, so people whove bought the tickets, enjoy.
If the authorities keep pulling such stunts, there's a hundred other places who would gladly accomodate ecclestone.

This was a shocking news, because we are only a month away from the race day & such incidents will give very less confidence to the F1 teams.
I certainly doubt that the govt/customs dept will provide waiver of duty. JPSI will have to cough up the 600 cr deposit with 2% cut.
Still keeping fingers crossed that the event will happen at least once.

Re: Updates on the Indian F1 track (Buddh International Circuit)

Jackassery -- Just the right term used! The Gov't cannot sleep in peace without meddling into everything that is for the good of the society.

Country's economy will take a spike with this kind of mega event!

The tourism industry will get a shot in the arm! The hotel industry! The transport industry! The chai wala, the paan bidi waala! You name it, that business is going to be positively impacted!

Plus India would be placed among the elite group of nations hosting this sport!

Ooops! Sorry this is not a sport, just an entertainment! So come on - JPSI - gimme Rs. 600 cr for letting you organize this tomfoolery!

If this is entertainment, why is the FMSCI associated with this event ? Shouldn't it be the Film Industry instead ?

Sad news. After CWG fiasco we dont need another blunder. All the government departments including Tourism need to work together to make it a success. Fingers crossed!
