And now Renault all set to exit F1?

Looks like Renault are soon to follow Honda, Toyota and BMW out of the Formula 1 circus :(

If the Reanult exits from F1, only 6 teams will be left on circuit. Then who is going to be a competitor to Ferrari & Mercedes ??

they should have done that long time back when the infamous singapore crash came to light.

anyways after the michellin days and in the stricter engine norms they have not been able to do much.

Not exactly six. The current Entry List including Renault has 13 teams so even they leave, that leaves us with 12 teams. Only 4 new teams are joining next season, so 8 of the regular teams will be there and Red Bull, Mercedes GP (previously Brawn GP), and even Williams can give the 'big 2' a good run for their money. As Brawn showed this year by actually winning both the titles.

The 2010 entry list (as of Dec 3, 2009):

McLaren Mercedes
Mercedes
Red Bull
Ferrari
Williams
Renault
Force India
Toro Rosso
Lotus
Campos
US F1
Virgin Manor
Sauber

David Richards of Prodrive could be the right man to get the Enstone based team back on track . There are reports that the team could be called Renault for another 2 years even after takeover of the team by potential investors . Renault might continue to be an engine supplier for another 2-3 years till the rules change .

FOTA might never be the same again !

Renault F1 team has been rescued and will race in 2010 .
The official announcement is still to come but BBC reports that a deal is done .
Source BBC

Excerpts:
Quote:
The Renault team will race on in Formula 1 next year after a deal was struck to secure its future, BBC Sport has learned.
The company had considered its future in F1, but sources say its team will continue under new owners with Renault keeping a minority 25% shareholding.
The team are set to be notified at their headquarters on Friday, with an official announcement likely next week.
It has also been agreed that the team will race as Renault in 2010.
The two front-runners in the battle to take over the team were Luxembourg businessman Gerard Lopez, and David Richards, the boss of the British motor racing engineering firm Prodrive and former team principal of Benetton and BAR in F1.
Lopez is considered the favourite to take over Renault under the auspices of his Genii Capital investment company.
The team's future has been in doubt since Renault held an emergency board meeting in early November to discuss whether to continue in F1.

It's finally official, Renault is not leaving F1.
The manufacturer has finally announced that Renault F1 will remain in formula 1 after a major stake in the team was sold to Luxembourg investment company Genii Capital. Renault will now only hold a 25% share in the team. The team will, however carry on with the Renault F1 identity.

Good for Renault. It'd have been a bad blow to lose yet another manufacturer. I suppose the mods can close this thread now.
