Try Discovery Turbo. They have been earlier covering the WRC and other such events.

Dakar Rally 2012 has started
1st day started off sad with an Argentinian biker succumbing to his injuries
Nasser Al Attiyah finished day 1 in 10th ; and Chaleco was fastest in the bikes. Will try keep most of the updates as and when they come.

Toyota has been consistently coming first in the T2 (unmodified) category. I don't know the final ranking of T2, but here is the T2 ranking for Stage 14:

Good to know as a Toyota owner :-)

Im a keen follower of the truck category. Kamaz Master's dominance has finally been challenged with Iveco finishing 1-2 and the Russian truck maker being relegated to 3rd, 4th and 5th spots. One can only assume that the absence of veteran drivers Kabirov and Chagin contributed to some extent towards Kamaz's relatively bad performance. Both are now reportedly developing the team and the next generation of young drivers which means that this is probably a transitional phase for the team. Mind you 3rd and 4th spots are not too shabby.
Whats interesting is the way poorer cousins Kamaz and Iveco have fared in comparison to technical big brothers - MAN, DAF, Daimler & Renault at the Dakar

You can hold your head up high - In T2 category, toyota took 7 slots in the final top 8. The sole Mitsubishi finished sixth.

In the overall Car category Toyota finished 3rd and 6th in the top 8. May hurt your pride a little that Mini finished 1 & 2 and also had the maximum number of entries in the top 8.

Well, T2 is more relevant for us. An extensively modded vehicle might do great, but that vehicle will have very little in common with what we drive everyday.

Yes, I was pleasantly amused to read about the Mini's performance.

@ nilanjanray - Im not sure if T2 is 'unmodified'.

Couldnt find much info on the Dakar website regarding specs for categories. What I understand is that T2 comprises of 'cross country production vehicles' but that does not clarify the level of modification allowed.
