Lightning quick pitstops!

Williams change tyres in less than three seconds in pre-season practice | F1 Fanatic - The Formula 1 Blog

Just read that! A sub-three second pitstop. Imagine the pressure on every pitcrew now that a second's hesitation is the difference between victory and second. Probably the most exciting rule change of the lot

I guess the FIA banned refuelling so as to promote more on-track racing.IMO, only by completely removed the idea of pitstops will make F1 more competitive. I am sure the likes of brawn will find ways of using the tyre pitstop to their advantage, which is the primary reason why the rules were changed.

I think with the ban on wheel covers almost all teams will be able to do that, unless they don't have their tires ready or if there is some problem with the wheel nut.

Ferrari will be happy and sad due to the refueling ban, because no more fuel-hose blunders but an engine which loves guzzling gasoline.

It is also the duty of the driver to complement their team by putting in quick in and out laps in order to gain more out of their pit-stop.

Red bull have sent their pitcrew to train with olympians. their fitness regime is now 4 hrs a day and it seems they have managed to do some 1.8s tyre changes in practice

I heard about this info too and I am absolutely dumbstruck. 1.8 seconds is almost superhuman! Sub three seconds were realistic but if this is true, then the teams have found something amazing. Guess we'll find out in two days!

I think we will see new and innovative pit stop strategies this season. As for 3 second pit stops, even in the days of 10 second pit stops we saw a lot of mistakes. It will make for good viewing but will be prone to human error.

and so it looks like the 3 second stops are a while away. the Bahrain GP 2010 saw 4-5 second pitstops.

i think they used the stopwatch liberally to time 1.8s. Probably on a stationary car, and they timed it from tyres off to tyres on. Must have omitted the jackup and other human factors that add up. its quite impossible to imagine 1.8s!!

Re: Lightning quick pitstops!

Being a ferrari fan, it is disappointing to see ferrari down in 5th position in this comparison. Where have those days gone when ferrari used to pull out unbelievably quick pit stops?

Re: Lightning quick pitstops!

Force India are fourth behind Red Bull, Mercedes, and McLaren, slower by 0.4 sec compared to RB and Mercedes.
