The NHRA, the governing body for drag racing in the United States, has recognized the Yas Drag Racing Center as the first track outside the USA as an NHRA worldwide racing network. Situated adjacent to the circuit's Formula 1 track, the centre has two grandstands with a seating capacity of 5,000 and houses its own race control, hospitality and paddock area.

Yas Marina Circuit partnered with American team Don Schumacher Racing (DSR), winner of eight National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) championships and 136 races, to provide two complete Top Fuel dragster teams to be based in Abu Dhabi.

The two nitro burning Top Fuel dragsters debuted at the inaugural Drag Racing Festival, driven by nine-time NHRA winner Tommy Johnson, Jr., and 2007 Top Fuel Vice Champion Rod 'Hot Rod' Fuller. A Top Fuel Dragster has 8000 horsepower and can accelerate from zero to over 480 kph in less than four seconds.

The magical 500kph mark remained elusive in six attempts. Yas Marina Circuit's new drag racing centre were witness to the fastest drive outside the United States.

Rodney "Hot Rodâ€ Fuller came agonisingly close to the magic milestone when he clocked 499.97kph (310.6mph) in race four of the 8,000horsepower Top Fuel Dragsters, covering the 402metre track in 3.898secs. The world record for the distance is 3.76secs.

Fuller and Johnson were the biggest attraction at the two-day event to launch the new drag racing centre, which saw more than 120 participants in eight different categories.

Lovely cars,might be a feast to see one of the most expensive modded cars,cant even think we can have these kind of drag races in India for another 200yrs

why not??????with the new track coming up in ncr we can have drag races similar in couple of years

The birds eye view of the circuit , I was on my way to Doha and it was early in the morning . was amazed to see the Ferrari logo clearly on the ground and I assume that its YAS . please correct me if am wrong
