tork india wins the opening round of 2010-TTXGP with a electric bike based on r15

I dont know if this has been posted before or how many people know this but there is competition called TTXGP which is like the moto gp of electric bikes .
A team from Pune,India has won the opening round with a bike based on the Indian Yamaha r15, beating bikes based on bigger bikes like the Suzuki-gsr. This is really a great effort for a Indian team comprised of a bunch of freshly graduated students! If u read the first link it says that this bike was mainly built from spares of the second placed team, Indian ingenuity at its best!
Quote:
Having a close look at the bike gives other clues. Tork India uses a very narrow 95 front tire and a 115 rear tire. This may have helped Lovell achieve the top speed advantage he had in the straights and allowed him to out accelerate the GSXR based Agni bikes out of the turns. The narrow profile of the bike and the open fairing allowed plenty of air to flow to the Agni 95R’s keeping them cool and running efficiently.
It seems this win could have Team Agni rethinking the apparently over built GSXR chassis or even thinking about streamlining as they did in TT Zero for higher top speed.
Kapil sums up the formula for success this way:
We are just showing the world the Indian way of doing things. You don’t need to spend a fortune to achieve something. Simple design and bike made from batteries, controllers from spares what Team Agni had. We just implemented with what we had and worked on our limitations.
What caught my eye in that link was that the small profile r15 tires was one of the main reasons that actually helped the Team Tork to register a much higher top speed and out accelerate the 2nd placed bike which had a very similar motor and batteries! So well done Yamaha & MRF too for such a wonderful chassis and tires! So i hope atleast the critics(general uninformed public) now understand that the tyre is indeed of very good profile for a bike such as r15!
