2011 MotoGP discussion thread

Jorge Lorenzo dominated the 2010 season ! He's doing same in the ongoing testing at Valencia . It will be really interesting to see if can retain the title ! More so because , the scenarios are little different . Rossi's with Ducati and Stoner is happy to be back on Honda . Also Spies can't be ignored , as well as Pedrosa. Who do you pick for 2011 season ?

Jorge Lorenzo topped the timesheet for the first day of test, followed by Casey Stoner and Ben Spies. The second day , Casey bounced back and post best lap-times , followed by Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies. Overall Jorge post best lap-time in the two day testing.
Some quotes by riders and teams :

General Director at Ducati Corse Filippo Preziosi :
Quote:
“Based on information we have from Nicky it wasn’t really necessary to test it (screamer version) with Valentino. We haven’t decided just yet but we will have a meeting very soon. We will decide in a few hours.”

“I think we will end up with the big bang in the 2011 bike. Nicky and Vale felt it’s a step ahead compared to the 2010. I think the big bang is easier to use and gives the rider more confidence. At the moment I suggest staying with that one.”
Stoner
Quote:
“There’s not much I’m not happy with!”

“Of course there is still a long way to go for us with the bike but we’ve come away with a reasonable base setting. We still have to get the general feeling of the bike a bit better in the middle of the corner turning, but that’s just a case of getting more time on the bike and a better balance for me as I have a different style to most riders. At this moment, with the set-up we currently have, we have been very happy with the feedback the bike’s been giving us and the way everyone’s been working.”

Lorenzo
Quote:
“We started today with a new chassis and new engine to affirm the feeling we had yesterday. Now Yamaha has quite clear ideas for improving. I had good feedback with all the engineers and I think all of us Yamaha riders have done a good job.”

“We also tried some Bridgestone tyres, two types. One didn’t give me more confidence and was more or less the same as what we had before, the other gave me more confidence when warming the tyre up. In the end the performance for doing a quick lap time was more or less the same.”

“When you see the official Yamaha team bikes both going fast it’s good because it confirms the new bike is that little bit better, but we still have a lot of work to do before 2011 gets underway,”

“I would like to have more power and a little bit more traction, and if we can have that then it will be a good season”

Re: 2011 MotoGP discussion thread

Its MotoGp weekend, 1st Race, Qatar - Night race. Whats the bet guys. Stoner has topped the pre-season tests. Will it be Repsol Honda Gang taking 1-2-3, will lorenzo be able to step on the podium, will Ben Spies surprise. Or will rossi be on the pace.

Re: 2011 MotoGP discussion thread

FP1s completed and Casey is on the rage again (yawn! ).

Hector Barbera doesn't look in any mood to get over with his 250 battles with Marco. I hope to see this on race day too.

Vale baba finished an unexpected 5th. What needs to be seen is whether he can improve upon it in the remaining sessions and more importantly last the race (fighting). Or is there still something up his sleeve?

Re: 2011 MotoGP discussion thread

Honda really strong. Looks like Stoner and Pedrosa will be the ones fighting it out for the first few races at least.

Sorry to bring a four wheeler into this thread. Couldn't help when it looks this good.

Presenting the 2011 MotoGP safety car, the BMW 1M Coupe. I want one.

Re: 2011 MotoGP discussion thread

I would be very much interested to see how Ben Spies shapes up this season. Was impressed by his performances last season and am really looking forward to see him

Wow, Hondas are strong. Casey on pole and Dani second. Lorenzo third and superb show by Simonchelli in 4th and Spies in 5th. Rossi still hurting I guess.

Re: 2011 MotoGP discussion thread

Good start for Mahindra for the first qualifying !
Marc Marquez continues to impress. Mark my words , he's got a bright future !
Vale again struggled . But you never know on the race day ! But it will be really hard for him to win . He's seriously struggling . BTW , whoever designed the paint job for Vale's bike , should be kicked , looks horrible.
And finally , Stoner is looking really dangerous . It looks as if he and the bike have gelled and formed into one.
The Honda's were quick last season too , but overall Yamaha's were balanced ! It will a interesting season. Exciting times begin !

Re: 2011 MotoGP discussion thread

^^ I don't recall him wearing that helmet yesterday

It was all Honda and Yamaha yesterday. Great laps by both Stoner and Pedrosa. Rossi and for that matter, all the ducs are struggling...
