Re: Formula1 - PreSeason Discussion Thread 2011

I suspect this rendering is just to invite sponsors. They will probably start building the actual car once someone signs up for those "your logo here" spaces.

Citroen says Raikkonen free to make F1 return

News > Citroen says Raikkonen free to make F1 return - Motorsport.com

Quote:
Kimi Raikkonen can pull out of the 2011 world rally championship to return to F1 if he wants to.

That is the claim of Citroen's rally chief Olivier Quesnel, amid reports the 2007 world champion is now contractually committed to rallying for this season.

The Finn and his management have not yet responded to multiple attempts by the Formula One media to confirm rumours that Raikkonen, 31, is a candidate to replace the injured Robert Kubica at Renault this year.

After making his full-time world rally debut with Citroen last year, the former McLaren and Ferrari driver has announced he will drive a Citroen DS3 under the Ice 1 entry in 2011.

"If he wants to leave, I couldn't say anything because he is a client," Quesnel told RMC Sport.

"He has rented a car from us and drives with his own sponsors," added the Citroen boss.

"I suppose there may be considerable pressure from Bernie Ecclestone, the FIA and the whole world of F1 who want to see him come back because he is still an emblematic driver for the sport."

However, Quesnel indicated that he doesn't think Raikkonen is too keen to go back to F1.

"If he is taking phone calls, they would have to be very convincing to get him back there," he said.

Re: Formula1 - PreSeason Discussion Thread 2011

Raikkonen is done with F1. He isn't coming back. Fact that he is paying for the drive himself (through sponsors) means he wants to be there. So i don't think there is any chance of this happening.
Another uncertainty is Kubica's expected return. Kimi wouldn't agree for a drive where he is not sure for how long he can race.

If ever kimi comes back, then we go back few years in F1. What a line-up

Michael Schumacher, Kimi Raikkonen , Fernando Alonso, Rubens Barichello.

That will be great for F1, only if someone can tell me where Juan Pablo Montoya has gone............?

^^
That is the stupidest bit of news I have heard in a while!

I think Ford's legal department are trying to meet their yearly targets!

Re: Formula1 - PreSeason Discussion Thread 2011

I have read somewhere that Ford needs to sue inorder to avoid a situation where someone else makes a car with the same name in the future and then get away with the excuse that they let Ferrari use the same name. I think this makes sense. No one would be so stupid to sue for an F1 car name.
I think Ferrari too understands this. That is the reason, they quietly changed the name of their car to "F150th Italia" and claim that the F150 was always supposed to be an abbreviation. Nice way to put a spin on things Ferrari .

Re: Formula1 - PreSeason Discussion Thread 2011

the whole F150 debacle is nothing but an extension of the 40 yr old bad blood between Ford and Ferrari.
Ferrari just walked into it.

Re: Formula1 - PreSeason Discussion Thread 2011

A real embarassing situation for Ferrari! 'F150th Italia', wierd name for an F1 car.

What was its legal department doing when they decided on the name F150? Atleast, car enthusiasists worldwide would be aware that the F150 a known name of the best selling truck in the americas and it was sure to cause confusion. I also read that there was a notice sent by Ford to Ferrari when the name was announced and there was no response from Ferrari which forced Ford to initiate legal proceedings on their trademark!

I am sure its got nothing to do with the bad blood between Ford & Ferrari. This sounds more like the script from WWE which is about entertainment!

Ferrari could have simply named their cars F11 or F2011.

Looks like Heidfeld is the No 1 contender to replace Kubica.

Will be an interesting couple of Test Days.

F150th Italia sounds so bad. SFM should have at least dropped the "th". Its so annoying to read the F1 news/ articles now with that new name in full glory

Cool Italian names! How hard can that be? Like they say in TG, even the most rudimentary things sound so hot in Italian, like the Bicolore, LP or Scuderia for that matter.

Re: Formula1 - PreSeason Discussion Thread 2011

But Schumacher himself says that podiums are difficult in the initial part of the season, as he thinks Redbull, Ferrari etcetera are faster. Do not read too much into testing times, though I was happy to see Schumi at the top, for a change.
