Re: Formula1 - PreSeason Discussion Thread 2011

So the RB-Nissan rumours is partially official now!

Quote:
Red Bull's Renault engines will be renamed Infiniti this season in a move that will boost the world champion team's budget by at least £7m.

Infiniti - the premium brand of Japan's Nissan, part-owned by Renault - is using F1 to boost its global profile.

The engines will be the same, branding aside, but the plan means Red Bull will get their engines for free.

That will save the team 8m Euros (£6.8m) a year, the cost of all customer engine supplies in Formula 1.

Re: Formula1 - PreSeason Discussion Thread 2011

Which channel will be broadcasting F1. Is it Star Sports or ESPN this season?

I think it will be Star Sports like it has been for the past many years. Only in case of any cricket matches or things like that, the telecast is sometimes switched to ESPN, otherwise, it is Star Sports always.

I'll happily subscribe to the HD package if we get F1 in HD on Star Sports.
Star Sports was already showing F1 in upscaled HD last year. I think this means that we would be getting a full HD telecast of the F1 races this year on Star Sports HD. Dish TV had the channel last year, not sure about other DTH operators.

Really? I did not know that. I have an Airtel STB and am planning to move over to DISH TV next month.

Cheers

If you listened carefully to Steve Slater's commentary towards the end of each race ( just before the start of Checkered Flag ), he would ask the viewers of their HD coverage to shift to the regular channel, as only the race was shown in the HD channel. I have been planning to shift to Dish HD for a long time now, but their rule that HD subscribers need to have the Platinum pack as the base pack and then pay another 100Rs for the HD channels , is putting me off ( total expense per month would come to around 500 p.m compared to my current 270 pm ).

Re: Formula1 - PreSeason Discussion Thread 2011

I have just been wondering.
Will there ever be a time when the tarmac on circuits is controlled.
Wet (with sprinklers on along the track)
Hot (with track heating technology)
Cold (Track cooling tech)
Bumpy (Engineered track beds that are flexible and controlled)
All at the control of a button at a pre-announced time.

not sure of the complete list but Bernie is sure contemplating artificial rain during races to make them exciting.

Bernie is just stirring up things to keep F1 in the news, now that the first race has been cancelled. This isn't the first time he has talked about this idea. There is no way the teams will agree to that.

Why not? They will probably just get another set of regulations to work with: 'weather regulations'

I've heard that but I am not sure that was for the Indian subscribers.

500 pm sounds a little too rich, perhaps in the days to come Airtel or TataSKY launches some reasonable plans.

Re: Formula1 - PreSeason Discussion Thread 2011

^^^ That was just a measuring device to help with future front wing development. It will not be used during the race, although Button joked that it would be good to use in the race as it made him faster .

Re: Formula1 - PreSeason Discussion Thread 2011

Even if they intend to use it, the regulations are against it. This device was used by RBR in 2009 when they first started using the flexi front wings.

Here is a bearable version of the same used by RBR. The Mclaren concept simply reminds me of the Sperm whale

Re: Formula1 - PreSeason Discussion Thread 2011

Vitantonio Liuzzi will partner Narain Karthikeyan in HRT for 2011. Though awfully inconsistent but with decent experience, he looks like a good bet for HRT.

RedBull seems to be on the pace in Barcelona.
