F1 driver Kubica in hospital after rally crash EDIT - Now recovered Even Won a Rally

Lotus Renault GP driver Robert Kubica suffered anaccident at high speed while competing in the Ronde di Andora Rally..
He was airlifted to Pietra Ligure Hospital, where he is currently undergoing medical checks. Robert Kubica, Renault's leading driver and a race winner in Canada in 2008 with his former BMW-Sauber team, is reported to be conscious.

The Italian news agency ANSA reported, however, that the 26-year-old had suffered serious injuries with little more than a month to go before the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix

He was diagnosed with fractures in right arm, hand and leg. I think he will be able to drive effectively in mid season.

My best wishes to him for a speedy recovery and hope to see him in action soon.

Surgery still on

Quote:
At the Santa Corona Hospital in Pietra Ligure Kubica is currently undergoing surgery on his broken hand – a specialist hand surgeon and the Renault team doctor are among those treating him – which is expected to continue until 8pm CET (7pm UK). An amputation rumoured earlier has been avoided, but a statement from Italy says it is too early to establish whether any movement in the hand will be lost. Internal bleeding, also reported earlier has been stopped.

Kubica’s manager Daniele Morelli, speaking from the hospital said “The surgeons are trying to restore the functionality of his right hand.”

Feel really sorry for him. Hope he can race again.

I'm sure that Renault are now regretting giving in to Kubica's demands of being allowed to do Rallys. All other top teams have banned drivers from doing alternate racing for safety reasons.

Replacement for Kubica.

Very unfortunate for Kubica. Especially after such a promising performance last season.

An article on the official F1 site states the following:

Top of the list to stand in for Kubica will be Bruno Senna, who raced for HRT in 2010 and was announced as a Renault third driver last week. However, given Senna’s and Petrov’s relative inexperience - and the apparent seriousness of Kubica’s injuries - there's already speculation the team could consider other options.

I wonder who their other option would be?

I hope he gets well soon.
IIRC correctly he spun off track right in front of us during the practice session for the Belgian GP 2010. and we had just found a place to sit on the then grassy banks.

Heard that ne is definitely a non-starter for Bahrain, though they hope to have him fit by the next race.

Sad news. He was really among one of the better drivers in F1. Hope he gets back to racing soon.

There are some videos of the aftermath on youtube, if anyone wants to see.

It's a big loss for Renault if he isn't going to be fit soon. Their plans for developing the car would go out of the window, if they have to rely on Petrov, Senna and Grosjean.

Outside these, they may have to look at Heidfeld or de la Rosa. Or loan some driver from other teams (Hulk, Fisi etc).

Their best bet would be Hulkenberg.

If he's not available, Fisi will surely bail himself out of Ferrari to get a drivers seat.

Sad to see Kubica out of action for this year. Get well soon

Really sad to hear about kubicas accident.
The news is coming that he may not race this year and also it is doubtful that if he ever will be able to race again.
Wishing him a speedy recovery.
