The doors to automotive heaven open at last

Hi,

After being a silent surfer of Team BHP for the last 4 years, 'the doors to Automobile Heaven open at last' for me.

My name is Suneel, I have been working at Muscat, Oman, since 2005. The vehicles used by by my father, over the years

Morris (1968 - 1972) - at UK
Mini (1972 - 1974) - at UK

Ambassador (1976 - 1979) - (WMJ 5368) - at Durgapur, purchased 2nd hand from the company my father worked for

Datsun 120Y (1980 - 1982) - company allot at Libya
Datsun 140J (1982 - 1984) - company allot at Libya
Mitsubishi Lancer (1984 - 1985) - company allot at Libya

Mahindra Jeep (1985 - 1999) - (all Mahindras were called Jeeps) CPA 2736 registered at Satna, MP - company allot
Ambassador Mark IV (1986 - 1996) - purchased second hand from the company - MMG 1357 (yes registered at Bombay) - driven in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana and Delhi with no problem at all from the police or RTO flying squad
Premier 118 NE - MP 19 B 7908 (Satna registered) company allot for family use - oh the gearbox was butter smooth, specially the shift from 2nd to 3rd - driven extensively in Haryana and Delhi with no problem from the police or RTO flying squad
Contessa Classic 2.0 Diesel - MP19B 9376 - company allot for Dad's long distant travels, extensively traversed Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, West Bengal, Maharastra, Gujarat, Orissa - one comfortable car to be in, though driving it was a pain as absolute no power and non power steering

Coming to the vehicles I have owned

TVS50XL (RNW 2379) - registered and used at Ajmer

Kinetic Spark (RNW 4475) - registered and used at Ajmer

KAWASAKI BAJAJ RTZ DELTA (KA20E1341) - Udipi registered - purchased 2nd hand in 1992 and used till 2003 - used in Karnataka (ofcourse), Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Delhi and Haryana (out of Karnataka, I has stopped umteen times by the police, just one question - 'yeh KA20 kahan ka number hai'!!! While at Satna, Baroda and Gandhidham (where I used the bike), I always felt I was riding something unique as it was the only KA20 vehicle around. Add to that, it was the light blue colour (black and wine red being common those days)

Tata Indica DLE - HR26M6061 - (2000 to 2002)
Tata Indica DLS - DL3CU5004 - (2002 to 2015 - recently Dad sold it)

Once I moved to Oman, I had the following rides

Nissan Sunny 1.6 (manual transmission)
Nissan Tiida 1.6 (automatic transmission)
Renault Safrane (automatic)
Nissan Altima (CVT)
Nissan Altima 2015 model - (CVT) (presently)

Re: The doors to automotive heaven open at last

That's a great intro and a very versatile car history there. I grew up in Muscat and unfortunately had to leave the country before I was old enough to get a driver's licence and enjoy the car options out there. Big fan of the Nissan Altima!

Looks like Suhail Bahwan is doing a good job with after sales, given your Nissan history. Do post an ownership review and welcome to the family!

Thanks Tushar. In the near future I intend to post my driving experience and also the procedure and horror stories to obtain the driving license. A lot of changes have happened at Muscat. The expressway, the flyovers - incense round about (Wadi Kabir) has been demolished to make way for a flyover. When did you leave Muscat

I left in 2003, but my dad was still there so I'd visit every 2 years or so. Every time I came, it was hard to believe how rapidly everything changed. Really miss the perfection in road construction out there.
