It has been more than six years since "Dusty" has arrived in and has become an integral part of my life. Since the arrival of "Dusty", My lifestyle has improved qualitatively but it's also equally true that my Bank Balance has reduced quantitatively ever since.
"Dusty" Odometer Reading after six years of ownership as on the date -
Being a person from Finance background, I am hardwired to do number crunching. Here I am presenting the Periodic Service Maintenance and Running Repair costs that have incurred up till now so that one can have an idea about how much a duster costs during the ownership -
The Sum-total comes out to be INR 2,20,066 /-
Insurance -
Total money paid for Annual Insurance / Renewal over past six years comes out to be INR 70,000 /-
Fuel Cost -
"Dusty" has returned the Average FE of 15 kmpl to my driving style. That is to say 12 kmpl in city traffic and 18 kmpl on highways. Our commute is near about equal mix of both City and Highway run.
It means that "Dusty" has gulped down near about (113716/15)= 7581 Ltr Diesel till now.
If we assume the average cost of Diesel over past six years at Rs. 65/ Ltr then that amounts total fuel cost = 7581*65 = INR 4,92,765 /-
Tyres -
Stock tyres were used for first 58000 km then I replaced all 4 tyres by Michelin Ltx Force. Cost = 37000 /-
Upon reaching 113000 km, I again replaced all 4 tyres by new set of same brand. Cost = 36,600 /-
But for the sake of accurate calculation, we will not consider cost of second replacement as they are very new and hardly put to use so therefore -
Tyre Cost = 37000 /-
Wheel Alignment and Balancing Cost = (113716/5000*500) = 11000 /-
Done at every 5000 km and costed about 500 Rs. each time.
Total Tyre Cost = 37000+11000 = INR 48,000 /-
Now We can calculate overall running cost of a Duster by adding all above heads = 2,20,066 + 70,000 + 4,92,765 + 48,000 = INR 8,30,831.
Running Cost of Duster / km = 830,831/113,716 =
7.30 Rs. (Without Considering Depreciation)
Well it's the time now to undertake more complex calculations which involve depreciation.
When "Dusty" was brand new its monetary value was INR 10,70,591 /- which is reflected on following invoice.
But recently I renewed the insurance and IDV on the insurance = 4,63,500 /-
That implies Total monetary worth of Duster depreciated till today = 10,70,591 - 4,63,500 = 6,07,091 INR
Depreciation / km = 607,091 / 113,716 = 5.34 Rs.
So Lastly,
Running Cost of Duster / km Considering Depreciation = (830,831+607,091)/113,716 = 14,37,922 / 113,716 =
12.64 Rs/km.
Note -
1) I have not considered Tolls, air check up, punctures, PUC, minor Roadside garage repairs etc into my calculations.
2) I have not taken into account one time Road tax and registration charge as I felt that correct value of depreciation on that account can be ascertained only after the Car takes her last breathe and stops running permanently.
