Newbie ... trying to MAKE my first car!

Hey people,

I'm 19, and I'm yet to get a car of my own, so I guess that's about as newbie-ish as it gets!

Anyways, I'm part of a group of guys here at IIT Bombay, and we're looking to participate in the Formula SAE competition in May next year. Basically you have to design and fabricate a formula-style autocross racecar, and compete against other Univ teams from all over the world.

We've gotten the first draft of the CAD work for the chassis more or less done, and we'll be starting the fabrication soon.

Some topics in this forum have been pretty interesting, and I really hope you guys can help us out with my newbie doubts!

Cheers!

Jade

Jade, the most interesting part of your intro is "fabricate a formula-style autocross racecar, and compete against other Univ teams from all over the world". Go for it and keep us posted. I think the Delhi boys (from DCE I suppose) have some similar project on hand.

Welcome aboard Jade.
THere was a Mini-Baja racer in our open room at the Engineering School i did my masters at here in the US. The mini-baja is affiliated with the SAE as well just that its off-road. The under-grad students did a pretty good job. I'll try and post some pics!
Good luck and keep us all posted on the progress

Thanks people. We'll keep you all posted about the developments.

@moralfibre
Yeah, I thought we were being novel, but the DCE and IITD guys beat us to it!

@highwayblaze
We thought about doing MiniBaja ... but we settled on FSAE instead.

They now have Mini Baja in India too. It makes your life easier because they give your the engine and the transmission. ARAI also helps you find sponsors. It's all about the money anyway. But I guess IIT has no dearth of money. Besides being single cylinder simplifies a whole lot of problems.

Welcome to the forum.

Hi Jade,

Welcome aboard!

You'd be suprised at the number of members here who are either currently working on a FSAE car, or have been in the very recent (or very distant :P) past!

Do a forum search for FSAE and you will get a handful of interesting threads. Check em all out. (I think theres also a vid of a FSAE car being tested on delhi streets!)
