Great to be here...I'm searching for the elusive VW Bug

Hello to all...nice to be here among like-minded car nuts.

I stumbled across the Team-BHP site while Googling in search of leads for classic VW Beetles (love those photos of the Mumbai VW rally) that might be for sale in the Goa area. I will be relocating to Goa in October 2008 where I've accepted a management position in the fledgling casino gaming industry. Actually I've wanted to visit India for many years as I have an intense interest in Ayurveda medicine…looking forward to the unique cuisine as well. If any members of Team-BHP are aware of any classic Beetles in decent running condition that are looking for a new home and doting owner please contact me. I certainly don’t mind traveling to other parts of the country in my search for the elusive Bug as long as it’s no more than a day’s return drive or so from Goa…OK, I’m flexible on that one.

Thank you,

Randy Steed

This forum is getting more and more interesting, day by day. Now a member from Sarasota (is this the same as in Sarasota, Florida?). Welcome aboard Randy to the crazy world of T-BHPians. You are probably the only "Casino consultant" in this forum.

Unfortunately, I do not know of any VW Beetle that you will be interested in. As far as Ayurveda is concerned, there are many in this forum, especially from Kerala who will be able to guide you to the authentic centers.

Welcome aboard. You will find some fantastic information on the vintage and classic scene in India, be prepared to spend alot of time here.

Dave (https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/membe...litscreen.html) might be able to find you one.

A request though - please dont take it back with you when you leave India, we dont have enough left over, and Im sure you can easily find one in Florida.

Welcome from a transplanted Buckeye. Bring good quality shoes. There are none in India, it's against their basic belief systems, I think. You will be able to find a great wealth of phoney Ayurveda medicine as well.

Welcome to T-BHP forum Randy and all the best in your search for the Beetle. I am sure you will find a lot of support here. If you buy a Goa registered vehicle there is no problem but be careful about and aware of all the rules and regulations when it comes to buying a car from outside Goa. You will eventually have to get the vehicle registered in Goa. There is a considerable cost involved in the entire inter-state transfer process.
This is not to dampen your spirit but just a friendly piece of advice.

Hey Randy,

Welcome!
If this is Sarasota, FL - i spent a spring break there a few years back!

From Sarasota to Goa...hmmm. Shouldnt be TOO much of a readjustment.

Hi Rehan,

Thank you for your reply. Sarasota would have been a very tame venue or a spring break celebration. The readjust should be easy as I’ve spent most of my working career abroad in S.E. Asia, Africa, Europe and the Caribbean. Sarasota is where I come back to between gigs. Essentially where family is. I look forward very much to the India experience. I expect to arrive Goa towards the end of September.

Cheers,
Randy

Hi Sudipto-S-Team,

Thank you so much for the advise. I knew none of this. You have probably saved me much trial-and tribulation. I confine my search to the Goa area for sure.

Thank again,
Randy Steed

Hi GT and Dirty Dan.
Yes, that Sarasota as in Sarasota, Florida. I’ll just have to get lucky in my search for a decent Beetle in the Goa area. Any leads are greatly appreciated. As for Aryuveda, yes I understand one must be aware of heavy metal content…not as in Metallica…

And Dan…thanks for the heads-up on the shoe situation. I kind of figured that would be the case and budgeted in a couple new high end pairs. Unfortunately wearing a suit goes with my alter ego casino persona which requires those useless for anything else dress shoes…otherwise its flip flops and sandals.

Cheers guys,
Randy

Hi Karosdeville,

Thank you for your kind welcome and also the link. I'll have a good look around there.

Not to worry about my taking any classics out of the country. One of the big reasons I’ve taken the job in Goa is to scout out retirement possibilities. I've roamed the world working in casinos since the sixties and the time is rapidly approaching to hang my hat somewhere comfortable with good food, interesting culture and nice people. The USA never factored into my golden years plan...Or lack thereof...

Regards,
Randy

Hi GT,

Yes, it's Sarasota, Florida. My old home town where I don't spend much time unless it's between jobs abroad.

Thanks for the heads-upon the dodgy Ayurveda medicines that are about. I be careful. Thers's quit a bit in the news lately regarding heavy metal content.

I'm excited about the emerging casino scene in Goa. Always nice to get in early.

Have a great day,
Randy

Thanks Aditya,

I won't miss the next one! Hope I have the wheels I looking for by then.

Hi Rehaan,
Yes, chill describes Sarasota…expensive chill. I’ve been spending a lot of time in Miami myself lately in preparation for my move to Goa.
Thanks for the link to the Goa in the rain pics.
Cheers,
Randy
