Hello from happy Optra owner

Hi everyone.

I am a 31 year old software professional from Gurgaon.

I stumbled upon team-bhp last month while searching the web for sites providing indian car reviews... went to indiacar and then got a link to this forum. and was hooked...!

Not too long afterward, I had made my decision and am now a proud and happy owner of a brand new Optra 1.6 (base model black with beige enteriors).

Thanks to all the reviews that I read, especially from Rudra Sen (though he has the 1.8 version of the Optra).

Got the wheels changed to 15" alloys, leather seats, gear lock and swapped the cassette player for a Blaupunkt CD/MP3 player.
My other car is a 1999 Santro, and the difference, of course, is obvious - in ride, handling, performance, and of course, the space.
But then I shouldn't be comparing - these are two very different segments.

I have driven many similar and bigger cars (both size and engine wise) in the States - Altima, Taurus, GrandPrix, Camry, etc... and always thought that these cars would not be as good on Indian roads.
But I must say, that the Optra handles the indian road conditions really well.
Pickup and power of the 1.6 Optra is quite good for general city/highway conditions. It might not be as perky as its 1.8 sibling, but I am more than happy in the short time that I have been driving this car.
One query:
I need to install a remote (keyless entry) system. What do you suggest. Should I go for aftermarket products from accessories dealers assure tell me that no wires will be cut - or - go to the GM dealer and take the authorized (and more expensive by a couple of thousand rupees) autocop stuff that he has?

Side Note:
Other than cars, I am into movies and music (who isint!) with a keen interrest on home theater. Setup my first home theater a year back (Onkyo 601 receiver, Bose AM10III, Infocus X1 projector with DIY screen). Looks and sounds awesome!!

Take care all.

Welcome, mate.

Welcome Manu and glad to note that you are happy with your purchase .
Enjoy your drive.

As re the Keyless entry, check this out
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1830

Your home Theatre - "Sounds" good (I cud not think of another way to put it...Moucho dilemma there ).

I enjoy my daily dose of Hollywood too. Where do you pick your VCD/DVDs from apart from the limited stocks offered by PlanetM and Music world? Appreciate if you could pm me on this.

Once again, welcome and enjoy your stay.

Cheers

Thanks for the link to the thread on the security system.
I guess Autocop will be a good option, and might be "safer" to get it done from the dealer.
XSailor, PM is on the way.

Hi Manu,
Yeah I agree that the system in the base optra ( Radio + cass ) is completely useless to someone who wants to hear good music.
How much does it cost to swap it for the OE CD player on the higher end models. Also did you do it after you purchased the car,or u asked them to install it in the factory itself before delivery?

Also how good is the remote entry for the optra. Does it open the boot ?
