Hello from Canada!
(
https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/introduce-yourself/88645-hello-canada.html)
Hello to the forum members in India and elsewhere!
My name is Mike Tippett and I live on Vancouver Island off the western coast of Canada.
I decided to join this forum because I came across it in a web search related to Peugeot 404 cars. I saw that there was a thread about Peugeot 404 automobiles in India and I am eager to learn more about that.
I have a 1966 Peugeot 404 Coupé with Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection, chassis number 10758 (the 10758th 404 C built). My other cars are a Mercedes-Benz B 200, a convertible smart fortwo BRABUS special model called the Canada 1 (modified in Bottrop Germany at the BRABUS factory) as well as another smart fortwo convertible.
I am the Canadian representative of Le Club 404 in France, and on behalf of the Club I have been doing a worldwide registry of remaining Peugeot 404 Coupé and Cabriolet models worldwide. To date, we have established the existence of
1430 cars of the 17,223 that were sold, over 8.3%. Of course, we want to have more on the list! The cars are all recorded by serial number (VIN), so we know that the same car is not being reported multiple times.
We are also commencing a registry of other Peugeot 404 models, namely the saloon, estate car and pickups. To date, we only have
949 (of the more than 2.8 million that were sold) on this list. We know that there are tens of thousands more still on the road throughout the world, so we are just beginning.
Any leads from members here, on how to get in touch with Peugeot 404 owners (particularly Coupés and Cabriolets) in India, would be greatly appreciated.
Here is a link to the website we are using to assist us with the Peugeot 404 registry (the statistics on the home page are out of date):
Peugeot 404
Hi Mike
Welcome! I think someone on the forum had a 404 cabrio which he sold. 404's are pretty rare in India. I have ot seen one for many years over here. There were a few estates which were brought in by UN bodies and that is it. The last one I saw was being used by the local undertaker!
Thanks for the reply, ajmat.
If you know the member who had the 404 C, perhaps you could alert him or her to my presence here. If this person still knows what the serial number or chassis number of the car was, that would serve my purposes well!
404s are very reare in Canada now as well. We have a harsh climate and most of them rusted away long ago. Of the 1430 404 C cars that we have identified, only 9 were or are in Canada. France still has over 1000 of them, and the Netherlands, over 100!
Hi Mike Welcome to Team bhp, hope you find your need fulfilled here .
Can you post some pics of your 404 please.i dont remember how it looks like
Hello joshguy,
Here are two shots of the 404 Coupé: the white one is mine, which has yet to be restored, and the blue one is that of my friend in Victoria BC Canada. It has already been restored.
The bodyshell is almost identical to that of the convertible (Cabriolet) but of course the Coupés have fixed roofs.
Wire wheels! I've never actually seen them except on TV and in photographs. Always had a liking for them. Are they actually adjustable spokes (like in cycles and motorbikes)? Does one have to have them set so that the wheel remains true (no waves or wobbles develop)?
OT: My Dad had a 604 in the early 80's when we were in Delhi. At that time it was one of the few cars in India to have power windows :D
Hi Mike T, welcome to the team!
Would you mind posting some pics of your Mercedes-Benz B 200 as well?
TIA :)
Yes, the spokes are adjustable, but as it turns out, Tim (the blue 404 C owner) has had trouble finding replacement spokes for this Robergel wheel, and they all desperately need trueing. When out of the city, he uses the regular 404 steel disc wheels!
Here are some shots of the B 200. The white smart in the foreground is my Canada 1 BRABUS model. The rear shot of the B 200 was taken at the dealer in Victoria, just before we took delivery in November 2007!
The B 200 has a 5 speed manual gearbox, 2 litre 136 HP engine, heated seats, lamella sunroof, "comfort seating" option, interior lighting package, alloy wheels, alarm, cruise control and all other usual standard equipment such as air conditioning. Its lifetime fuel consumption is 7.27 L/100 km (85,000 km).
