sumeethaldankar,

Where do you source parts? I thought Honda doesn't sell parts OTC.

Suspension parts I have sourced from spareshub.com. Any engine related part I would prefer OE Honda so Ignition coils and spark plugs I got from HASS during service. For everything else my garage guy is there. He got a lower sub frame mount, brake pads etc from his source.

re: Honda Civic Independence : CNG'd. EDIT: 1,13,000 km up and SOLD!

Sunday morning gave quite a scare to me. The regular washer guy was on leave so I went to clean the car myself. It was a couple of weeks since I had filled air in the tyres using the electric portable pump. I have to move the car to access the right side tyres as they are close to the wall and difficult to access.

When I inserted the key and tried to crank the car all the dashboard lights flickered and the car wouldn't start. I was alarmed and decided to check the battery. Pop’ed the hood open and verified that the greenish glow in the Amaron battery was there. Memories of the rat bite incident flooded me and I panicked. Noticed that the car was not locking as well and I had to manually lock each door.

Almost sure that the rats had had my car again I called up my mechanic Deva (No Honda this time) at around 9:45 AM. Told him about the incident and he told me to check battery terminals and try hitting/shaking the battery contact lightly as it had rained heavily the previous day and there could be moisture on the terminals. He was right.

The terminals had some water in between them and the + terminal was a bit loose. I tightened it and wiped off the excess water and sprayed the terminals with WD-40 (had confirmed earlier with Deva about same). I then hopped in the car and cranked the car and she started happily. Moved her around a bit in the compound, came back home and thanked Deva profusely.

re: Honda Civic Independence : CNG'd. EDIT: 1,13,000 km up and SOLD!

Had got these new wipers from my local shop for 650 bucks. They are doing a decent job. Brand name is Essentials.

Had gone to Deva for some work yesterday. Since the car under heavy traffic conditions stalls in CNG wanted to get the throttle body & EGR valve cleaned from Deva however due to non availability of the scanner guy to reset the throttle valve after the cleaning I had to postpone the task.

The right side low beam light was replaced with a Chinese brand due last time I had been to Deva. It conked out last week and replaced the same with a Philips H3 bulb.

Some Misc pics of the car.

Sumeet, consider getting just the wiper rubber (squeegees) from a HASS for your car. They cost me only Rs 1100 for both wipers. There is no need to replace the blades unless they are damaged.

In my experience the OEM parts are far superior to any aftermarket ones including reputed makes like Hella and Bosch. Those judder like crazy while OEM is smooth and leaves minimal or no streaks.

re: Honda Civic Independence : CNG'd. EDIT: 1,13,000 km up and SOLD!

The car was facing idling issues while in CNG in heavy traffic. Got the EGR valve and throttle body cleaned from my mechanic Deva. Post clean up the engine feels very crisp and brisk especially in petrol mode. In CNG I noticed the idling issue where the car comes to stall after a heavy bout of traffic has improved but not completely resolved. Might need another appointment with the Lovato guys which I might get done later.

Deva let the car stay with the battery disconnected for some time so as not to need a ECU reset which is typically needed after a TB cleaning. I must say Deva did a much better job at the task than Honda.

The Odo reading at time of TB cleaning.

The Odo display has started it's 'Peak-a-Boo' games due to the rainy season.

Edit: The Car feels so much good to drive after this simple task. I cannot wait to switch back to Liqui Molly and would do so in a month or two once I complete at least 7 to 8k kms with the Honda OE synthetic.

Hello Sumeet,

Have you fitted rear view camera into your Civic?

I remember it was someone very active on the forum. Like you.

I too want to do it.

Can you please point to someone who got it done?

I don't have a rear parking cam but have parking sensors. I do have a rear dash cam though.

Meanwhile the driver side mirror today again refused to operate by switch and needed to be adjusted by hand. Another garage visit coming up sigh!

re: Honda Civic Independence : CNG'd. EDIT: 1,13,000 km up and SOLD!

So the other day I decided to do some "Hondagiri" and revved the car a bit hard from the stop light for a memorable rush of adrenaline. Ended up with spoiling the pulley near the belt as it seems now is making racket. Will be going to my mechanic to get it fixed today. Sigh! a niggle a month is the norm these days .

re: Honda Civic Independence : CNG'd. EDIT: 1,13,000 km up and SOLD!

So the troubles continues. Turns out the noise was due to the auto-tensioner pulley and belt. Both were changed at my mechanic's place. I strongly insisted on original parts and he managed to source the original pulley (5.2k) and a Gates belt (1500). Along with these the mount top portion had to be replaced as it was cracked. 2500 for the mount + 400 went as labor for lathing the surface as some drilling had to be done to install the new mount. 1500 bucks was labor so a hefty 11.1 k was swallowed by my Civic..

Problem is the more I spend the more I am inclined to keep the vehicle to justify the cost.

Below are some pics.

Old Belt. It will remain as backup in case the new ones starts to act funny.

Damaged Belt. The belt got some damaged due to the bad pulley.

New belt is by Gates. Hope it won't give any issue.

Is this the first time the oem auto-tensioner pulley and belt are changed, or had they been changed already?

Ok, I asked because my car is presently 11+ years old and at about 1,67,000 kms.

I expect natural wear and tear of parts like the above. And I have to be prepared for it.
