A short update.

The part :
A lovely short meetup with @souravc, @nileshch, @el lobo 61 at Barista, opposite K Star mall.

Discussions range from past car purchases, to the (inevitable) traffic problems of Mumbai/Pune/Bangalore - funny part, opposite to the "my city is better" trend seen on the forum, here every guy was giving issues on his own city!

A short photoshoot, in which @nileshch is far more successful in snaring up pics of the four ventos (than me, and hence you won't see me uploading any pics of the meet for now!) And after which I scoot off.

Guys, thanks for coming down at such a short notice!
It was great meeting up with you guys - hope the rest of your journey is incident free , hope you got my text

Thanks! Got your message. Yesterday went fine - made the trip to Ahmedabad in 10 hours with a 3 hours break at Vadodara.

Btw - I get this single beep when I on (key) the car, just before starting the engine. No other difference (performance/indicatiors on the dashboard/etc).Couldn't find anything in the manual.

Beep would mean something that demands the driver's attention . Run a check on fuel, engine oil , coolant levels , parking lights on , indicators on , etc - these are what comes to my mind right now

Update from Jaipur : we discovered the reason - we have a belkin invertor connected to the 12volt socket. Every time we start the car, it gets switched on and there was the source of the beep!

1400+ kms and not a single bad patch (except the construction between dahisar and gujarat border) - the GQ is a dream road to drive!

Actually planning to put up a travelogue, so hence not putting up pics now.

I did put up a pic citing my top speed (190kmph), but that was correctly pulled down by the mods

re: My Shadow Blue VW Vento TDI. EDIT: SOLD after 8 years, 80000+ km!

How is that when you have this awesome road trip done, a ton-load of pics to be uploaded & all the trip details fresh in your mind, waiting & ready to be just written down; and suddenly you have a sh$$load of work to be done.

I have been carrying a pen drive (which by the way is officially not allowed in my org) to my office with all the pics downsized (to less than 1mb), hoping that I would find time to start working on the travelogue, or atleast put up the first starting post - and nah! Murphy seems to be working overtime just to screw up my case!

The last 3 nights at home too have been quite the case - twice I have just gone home, had dinner, opened the laptop & snored to glory right there; once with my office attire full on & me sleep-drooling on the laptop throughout the night! While the third night, BSNL did a-la Murphy and hanged up the net to my place!

So while I hope to start on the travelogue by this weekend, here's a sneak peak
  • Total Kms Traveled : 3485 Kms
  • Total Fuel Consumed : 195 Liters
  • MID Fuel Efficiency : 18 kmpl(Approx)
  • Actual Fuel Efficiency : 17.85 kmpl
  • Food Costs : Still to be estimated (STBE)
  • Boarding Costs : STBE
  • Toll Costs : STBE
  • Average Speed : 80kmph (Approx)
  • Maximum Speed : 190kmph

Btw for those of you interested to know, the lady is on the verge of reaching 6k kms.

Good one Ninja. 18 kmpl and 190 kmplh, best of the worlds, ye. Good to see you back safe and sound. Will be waiting for the travelogue, especially with lots of F1 photos from the photography champ. BTW, were you there to witness the chaos at the Metallica concert? That was sh$$.

What an amazing recepie for a mind blowing TL this seems to be! Bring it on Ninja!
Lovely snaps there too.

18kmpl is a great FE. High speed numbers are also great!

And pen drive in office? Lol! Unless you have a laptop, you do know that all desktops in office have USB port disabled, right?

Definitely. I had carried the laptop with me - the initial plan was to keep a live update on a daily basis - but couldn't resource a datacard in time. But the laptop helped in recording the details in detail.

And a big thanks to you sir! Those short calls on Thursday put the idle mind to ease - could focus & enjoy the trip

Oh yes, I was there for the concert too. Unfortunately didn't take any pics as we had left the camera at home. Will be putting up details on that too.

And yes, the Tdi packs the best of both worlds.

Thanks!

Strangely my system has it enabled - haven't dared to use the pendrives for music/videos (don't know when NSS would sneak up on me), so far have used it only for office documents (whenever required) & TBHP!

Brilliant teaser Ninja. Was wondering where you vanished after coming back. Eagerly waiting for your travelogue. I crossed 1K recently and you are already at 6K. Way to go.

Gaaaah...my respective stats are 12 kmpl and 170 kmph respectively So I guess you win

Same problem with me. First couple of days was so exhausted, could barely manage to put the teaser post up. Then work hit with a vengeance. Hopefully should be able to get the assembly line moving by the weekend!

Wow!! This is some drool stuff ninja..
190 Km/hr?? That is some serious speed. Would be interesting to know how the car behaved overall.

During my first trip home, since the car was in Run-In I didnt even touch 100.

Waiting eagerly for the details and the story to unfold!!

CHEERS!!

Lol. Noops, it was your teaser post that pushed me to put up this post!

Hopefully atleast one of us should have the travelogue up by the weekend!

@rachit, good to see you keeping the 100kmph limit. Use the speed limit indicator/warning, it helps a lot on the highways, I had set mine at 85. Although it's a pain in the a$$ to kept within the limits - I have seen M800s and even a Nano overtaking me!

Btw the car was very stable, hardly any vibrations at 190, but you could feel the engine straining (through the accelerator & clutch). Also, I did the 190kmph only for a min - except for the initial stretch between Surat & Ahmedabad, the speed limit was strictly maintained at 130 kmph. Reasons for the same will be given in the travelogue.
