Re: BlackPearl goes white - Bolero LX 4x4

Congrats on your white pearl! With the A/c up and running it must surely be a lot comfy inside but the obvious question is how is its performance in the day and its effect on the engine and driveability?

Thanks girishglg. The AC does not have much effect on the driveability. However it is not very effective during daytime when the vehicle is not moving. It becomes very effective as the vehicle gathers speed. I need to get it checked.

BlackPearl congratulations!!! really good choice. And I am sure you will enjoy that 4x4.

Above one doesn't appear to be problem, AC cools better in a moving car.

Re: BlackPearl goes white - Bolero LX 4x4

^^^
Well positioned.
Which compressor? Seems to be a small Subros.
The PS reservoir needs to be properly mounted. (Seems to be on one bolt now). In a 4x4, subjected to bad roads/ vibrations beyond normal, everything needs to be properly bolted down.

The compressor is Sanden SD5H16. Yes, the PS reservoir needs to be mounted properly.

Thanks BlackPearl. Can you give more details on AC fitting - cost breakup, what configuration is required, what all needs to be considered and any special considerations? Importantly, do you feel loss of power if AC is on esp. on the incline or with full load? Will keep visiting this often now, that this fits the requirements of what I am looking for as well.

@advaitele - Here are the details, and it is going to be a long post . What happened was that the guy to whom I went first had said that the entire installation (including parts and labour) would cost me Rs 28000. He took Rs 25K from me and brought the following parts
1. Sanden 5H14 Compressor
2. Sanden Vikas Cooling unit
3. Sanden Vikas blower
4. Condenser
5. AC Filter
6. AC Plumbing pipes
7. Brackets and misc.

He was able to fit everything mentioned above except the compressor. Fellow Bhpians like Altocumulus, Sutripta, SS-Traveller and Jeep Thrills member Ritik Kakoty had told this guy many times that the compressor would not fit in the place where he was planning to. But this guy was adamant and said that the bracket was provided by the company and it would fit there like all the other Boleros. However at 9 o clock in the night he accepted defeat and said that he would go back to the suppliers and ask for a separate bracket to fit the compressor at the top. So I went back there next morning and he started saying again that the compressor would fit where he had said at first. After trying for 1 hour, I told him that it is not going to work and I had lost all faith on him. I requested him to take me to somebody who would be able to do the job. So this guy took me to a place in Mullick Bazaar where the people seemed to be very confident. They brought the brackets and fitted everything in 2 days. Only problem was that the 5H14 compressor did not fit. Instead they gave me a 5H16 compressor and charged an extra Rs 1200 for that.
The final cost was something like this -

Initial 25K +
Rs 1200 for the compressor +
Rs 1500 for the bracket +
Rs 3000 for Labour +
Rs 800 for AC gas +
Rs 500 for new plumbing pipes
= Rs 32000.

After three days of fighting the AC finally got fitted, but the gas went out in 2 days due to a leak in the AC filter. So they removed a valve and fitted a 'Jam Nut' there. It is working extremely well now. Only problem remaining is a few drops of water leaking from the joint between the blower and the cooling unit. I will be able to fix that myself.
Sorry for such a long post.

Re: BlackPearl goes white - Bolero LX 4x4

Wow, that's some experience you got there.

I've had such experience with one such "confident" mechanic, who wasted three hours for replacing the throttle cable on my Thunderbird while returning from Ahmedabad to Pune, finally giving up. And that meant our plans to ride home that night went in hot Ahmedabad air. (read in my travelog).

But, finally, hopefully, your AC guy learnt something.

Do mention about performance with AC - on hilly road conditions, with full load conditions, and other conditions you drive on.

I so want to TD the Bolero and drive it home, if only home ministry approvals come so easily.

Sure, are you staying at Highland Park. We have moved to Greenwood Nook near Avishikta. So should be pretty nearby. Can catch up any evening.

Hi,
How come the larger compressor fitted, while the smaller one didn't?
