Re: Skoda Superb - A tryst with destiny

Is it advisable to retrofit Skoda Superb Petrol 2012 with CNG.

My car has done just about 25,000KM - reason for looking at CNG option is to beat the Odd/Even number rule in New Delhi - which is likely to continue. I cannot be driving my car on just half the days. CNG cars are exempt from this restriction.

Though I have no personal experience with CNG, these discussions may help -

4 Years @26-03-2016 23022kms

Today my Superb completed 4 years of blissful service with me. I know it's a low mileage car but still an absolute treat and zero issues.

Not a spec on the interiors. As good as the day I bought it. And a fantastic music system, still, and I have heard many.

Going by some other reviews of the Skodas on TeamBhp, I think I am blessed that there are zero issues with the car, fingers crossed. The low mileage may have a role to play in that. But at this rate, it's a keeper for another 5 years. No other car has given me so much pleasure over this prolonged period of time.

Cheers...

Car looks like its brand new! .

I think your selection of MT + Petrol has saved you. Majority of issues reported are with DSG in petrols and EGR related issues in diesels.

The TSI + 6MT is a fantastic combination. When I let go of my Laura TSI at 82K kms, the engine, clutch and transmission felt so fresh that one could be fooled into believing that I have just rolled the car out of the showroom. 23,xxx kms is nothing for this gem of an engine. You can run it for lakhs of kms I bet with proper care and good practices. Just keep an eye out on the water pump. It is a potential weak area in that engine bay.

PS : I see you haven't changed tyres yet. Try changing to some good Michelin or Conti comfort rubber and you will feel a world of difference in the way the car rides.

Thanks. So what car are you on presently?

Did you face any issues with the water pump? If so, what were the tell tale signs / any precautions?

23k is a little young for a tyre change, don't you think so? I usually change tyres after 40k. Will keep your suggestions in mind.

Cheers...

I did not face any issues with the water pump in my car but have accross a lot of documented cases of water pump failure in the 1.8 TSI. Apart from this there have been a few rare cases of timing chain slippages. I think one was documented in our forum itself.

23K is a little young for tyre change for these Goodyears, but good soft compound tyres generally don't last a lot more than 25K kms. These Goodyears are made of a hard compound and age slowly but on the downside they are noisy and give a poor ride. Your Superb deserves a good set of premium rubber. Since you have run these tyres for 4 years I think you should change to some better rubber and exploit the full potential of you car's ride quality.

BTW I bought a BMW X3 30d to replace the Laura

Congratulations dkaile. Hope the 2nd half of your journey (next 4,5 years) is also trouble free. You should also try the DSG gearbox after the driving MT for 4 years. I'm sure you'll enjoy every bit of it.

Re: Skoda Superb - A tryst with destiny

Hi all - i have a Superb 2011 Model ( petrol automatic) - I seem to have an issue which I am sure can be solved with someone's help here , I am at a loss of ideas so here goes.

Issue : Car battery drains , from 13.9 while stopping to 12.2 , 12.0 when I get back into the car . Wait a few minutes and then it comes back up to 12.4 , 12.6 and the car starts ( few minutes ranges from 2 - 20 ) .

What have I done :

1- Suspected the music system , had a switch to cut off power to the music system - did not help

2- Had the car handed over to Vinayak skoda blr who did a scan and said it was all good - did not help - Have sent it again

3- Checked the battery - all good , just 6 month old Amron Din74

4- Have asked them to check , the seat memory switch which Vinayak skoda had replaced , the passenger side headlight which was also replaced , cig lighter charging port , headlight switch and to re scan for wire cuts or leaks in general

Could some one suggest anything else that needs to be done or in any other way help solve the mystery ?

The car is awesome has 74 k on the Odo , do blr chennai every weekend( family in chennai i work @ blr ) ,hate to part with it let me know if you have a worthy thought on the topic !

Try disabling the ambient lighting to stay on all the time. This was the issue which drained my battery in its initial days. I disabled it in the settings and have been living happily ever after with original battery which is still going strong 4 years+. Also any wiring and electrical work done to the car (as you say you have got done) and needs to be thoroughly rechecked by an alternative service station as the original one would never accept any mistakes it has made.

Cheers...

Thanks ! Mine were off ( ambient lights) ever since the trouble started thanks any way .

As an update to the original issue Vinayak did multiple scans with nothing wrong with the car , and cleaned , rechecked and the wiring with no fault identified ,whole thing was getting mysterious.

Finally this morning they found something which appears valid , one of the cells in the battery is dead , Amron ( relatively new should be 6 - 9 months old ) seems to be causing the issue - will change the battery and then see how it goes.

Thanks and happy driving all of you !

Battery Change 08-07-2016

It was time for battery change of the Superb

Skoda Superb - A tryst with destiny-skoda-superb-03072016_1.jpg

It was a DIN 60 Ah one and I replaced it with a EXIDE MILEAGE battery. The Original VARTA Battery on the Superb (Made in Czechoslovakia) lasted me 4 years+. It costed me 4500/-after giving back the old battery.

The Superb Battery (model was FMIO-MREDEIN60) MRP 6630/-,

came with a 4 year warranty. Amaron were cheaper by 5-600 bucks but I decided to stick with my 'trusted' brand.

Congratulations. Your car indeed looks as good as new. Going through your thread I am inspired to write a review of my Superb now almost 6 years and 100,000+ kms old and going strong. Fortunately I bought the MT version and hence touchwood no problems. Earlier we had a Laura that served us almost a decade and (I think) 135,000+ kms. Great cars backed by weak after sales service.

Re: Skoda Superb - A tryst with destiny

5 years @25300 kms 20-03-2016

Yes, the cars been barely driven in the last year. Some issues had cropped up recently as detailed below -

1. The front passenger window mechanism had gone kaput. It's motor was working as I could hear it definitely purring but the window refused to come down. I inquired from Nawab Motor's, Noida and they claimed that the window lift mechanism must have gone kaput and it was around 11,000 Rs!! plus labour charges and the bill would be around Rs. 15,000/- Now I kept avoiding the expense for a while and luckily yesterday I was at Kailash Colony Market, New Delhi for a tyre change and I casually inquired there if the window mechanism could be repaired. And lo and behold I bumped into a very 'competent' denter Mr. LalaRam (M: +91 9999157836) who said he had done the repair work on hundreds of car especially Skoda and some imported brands. The actual work was carried out by a specialist of this trade Mr. Fakruddin. He had the door packaging opened in a jiffy and from that itself I could make out that he was a expert. It was found on opening that the steel wire had rusted and broken off (maybe due to very infrequent use). He made the wire to the correct length from 2 clutch wires. Mind you it is a 'specialist' job and requires a skilled hand. But he completed it perfectly and 'voila' the window was back to its original condition perfectly. He remarked that side window glass was even thicker and more solid then that of the BMW's that he had repaired. Yes, Superb is a 'solid' car! Total damages.... wait for it.... Rs. 1500/-!! Now that's some value for money and the window is working perfectly. I am aghast at what these OE workshops rip us off for and also amazed at the skills (very under-rated) of our Indian mechanics.

2. One of the tyres had developed a rip which I had got repaired. Though there was mileage remaining on the tyre, the 5 years of ownership was taking it's toll and the Goodyears were beginning to develop cracks on the sidewall. So I took out the brand new tyre in the stepney and replaced one of the front tyres and also purchased one new Goodyear Eagle NCT 5 205/55 R-16 91V to make both the front tyres new. Bought it from Universal Tyres at the Kailash Colony market, New Delhi for Rs. 7200/- with 3 years guarantee + Rs. 200 for all 5 tyre balancing (with weights). The car's character has completely changed and it's back to it's premium brand new ride. Few month's down the line I will also replace the remaining 2 tyres so that all 4 tyres will become new.

Few pictures as of today

The car's driving like NEW even after 5 years. One of my best purchases ever!

Cheers...

DKaile, great to see your lovely experience. I nearly bought the same Rosso Brunello Superb TSi (but in DSG) but could not stretch for the extra EMI. I went for a Rio Red Octavia TSI DSG instead. Even today, when I see an RB Superb, my wife comments on the stunning looks :-)

One query on putting new tyres in front. Should not they go to the back for a big heavy car like the Superb? Sounds counter-intuitive but that is what is being recommended now.
