55k for a car costing 1000k INR is actually quite cost-effective.

Having said that, this is when quite a few expensive components start to show their age and while I hope you dont face any of that given Bangalore's moderate climate and your driving style, I will keep a close check on your thread from now on.

That said, which Co do you plan to go for, for your insurance renewals to?

No idea, I always go with what dealer suggests. Will update when the renewal comes up.

Eighth anniversary checkin Continues to be smooth sailing. 8th year service is a major one (Rs 85K includes transmission fluid change and rear brake pad replacement). Insurance: Rs 27K.

The materials used in this car age extremely well. Full credit to Mercedes. Look at the driver's seat bolster and steering grip after 8 years and 60K km. The car has never received any interior cleaning. (my no#1 instruction to the service centre is not to touch the interiors - they do more damage than good). I just vacuum and wipe-off with a damp cloth. Never polished the exterior also.

Those interiors just look awesome.
Especially for 8 years of family use and DD.

Way better than the BMWs and Skodas, whose interiors just wear out and go sticky in a few years usage.
Or maybe it's just coastal humidity VS Bengaluru's awesome climate.

Wish for more awesome kilometres, though curious to know whether the S is a keeper or gonna upgrade soon, and what will be the upgrade when it happens.

A combination of factors I think. Good choice of materials, Bangalore weather, garage parked and owner-driven. My experience with BMW 5 series, Skoda Laura is not this good under similar conditions. Credit must to go to Mercedes - the leather is just the right type, not too soft (like Nappa in some Volvo cars) and not too hard (common among EU cars). Almost all buttons (seat adjustment, window switches, AC and infotainment) have metal touch surfaces.

Have already sold my one kidney for this 'make it large' purchase My next decent car shall be a gift from my children whose education is funded by my wife.

Oh sorry, it was meant to be just that much I would like to keep this thread limited to W221 ownership. Maybe I will start a new thread for this 911 but I am afraid my excitement will seem disproportionate given the car is a very old 2011 997.2 modest base Carrera compared to it's more illustrious brothers in 911 range.

Yes, with usual errors and unflattering photos I guess these cars get listed by multiple people.

It is still a Porsche

And the way the story is told makes all the difference *great expectations*

I agree. Stories are better than actual cars. Will find my way to assembly line, almost forgotten the route

.
C'mon. You made us sit through an S350 review for 5+ years, not an S65 AMG's!!!

It is an old Porsche, not an old Hyundai for us to lose interest. okay, maybe a Cayenne. but not a sportscar Porsche!!!

We are easily pleased, don't over estimate us.
Earlier we would be excited over BHPians buying used German 3s, now we are excited about BHPians buying used Porsches.

So please do pen down an ownership report.

The W221 was always a special car for me. It’s the first S-class which I got to see up close. Back in 2006, when we had just moved to Bahrain, our landlord had a W221 S350 and Cayenne S. My dad would pick me up for tuitions late in the afternoon. In case he was late, my favourite time pass was to check the S350 out and I had discovered that everytime I put my hand around the handle, the speedometer would light up.
That was the best thing I had experienced about the S-class. The landlord did show me the car once, he used to observe me through the CCTVs. The W221 became my favourite merc after the W140, W124 & W211. The 14 year old me back then hated the W220.

When I moved back to India, I used to spot this S350 CDi everyday enroute college. It was black in color with sexy alloys. A few years down the line, my friend was keen on picking up a S-class and we were checking out cars. I got to drive 3-4 cars. One of them was a petrol and I was surprised with the overall driving experience. One diesel example we drove had clocked over 150k KMs and I was surprised with how well the car had aged. Although my friend ended up picking a E350 CDi, we were amazed at how the W221s held up even after heavy usage on our roads. After I saw the design of the W222, I fell in love again with the W221’s design.

I have been following your thread for a long time and I am amazed at how passionately you have maintained
and used your car, totally unusual for a S-class owner. Congratulations on the Porsche! Wishing you fun filled miles with both the S350 and the 911.
